The question should be if someone has 3 grand for a piece of plastic lying about :) You must really be stinking rich or mentally unfit to blow 3K on something like this, imho.

Well if we would imagine what an SNES CD dev-kit could go for... PC Hibino fetched about 20k$ on yahoo once IIRC, so maybe its not even that high for a controller.
I agree though, but anyway, who else would buy SNES CD dev-items but very stinking rich collectors?^^

It is a prototype Playstation controller but one that came after the Nintendo CD system collaboration. Pictures of the Sony combo SNES/CD unit showed that they were going to use the exact same shape and button configuration as the standard Famicom/SNES controller which when you think about it makes sense. Only after they broke with Nintendo did they start to design their own controller.

well i wonder how much the deck would fetch if a mere controller is so highly regarded. Maybe it's time to think of buying a roadster car .

I think I posted a pic once before on AA but never had it on ebay.

I doubt anyone would buy it and thats ok I don't mind keeping things like this. ;)

When it arrived it came factory sealed in the bag but I just had to open it and check it out. I got this one for free as a gift (remember kids its not what you know) so it would bother me a bit if it sold. I'd have to send him a BIG gift card for the holidays.

indeed (we really need a smile with a monokel! ^_^).
I have a picture - that I posted here some time ago - of it with a diagram of the button values that came from a PSX manual.

I'm pretty sure this was created for the SNES CD dev units which were to be sent out.

Here is the same controller with the legendary SNES CD unit shown at CGE.

as the SNES CD and PSX have a history together I guess it can be seen two controllers historically.

Pretty cool stuff. Sometimes you can list something just to get people talking, not to actually sell it. Looks like it's working. ;)

Why is it since sonic xtreme everyone thinks their stuff is worth $3000?

    Pfft

    Please.

I thought my stuff was worth 3k WAY before sonic xtreme was a gleam in the programmer's eye.

This is the home of the over priced auction and don't you forget it.

I remember those photos but if I recall correctly both of those items happened to be salvaged from the trash at the same time. People just assumed that they went together.

Here is a picture of Sony's combo unit which clearly uses the standard SNES controller and outputs.

And here is a picture showing the evolution of the Playstation controller after the breakup with Nintendo with one of the later ones being yours.

Finally here is a picture of your controller on display clearly showing the modern Playstation symbol which Sony used after their collaboration with Nintendo.

What you have the PS1’s equivalent of the PS3 boomerang controller. A great item but it isn’t connected to the Nintendo system.

It can't plug into a snes, it has the wrong plug :)

It's definately a dtl-h500 target box controller, which is still rare. I'd love one, but I wouldn't even pay that amount for the whole system.

I was tempted by the keyboard/mouse adapter because I wanted to make sure it was emulated ( this is my main interest in the dtl-h500 as the chipset is probably similar to the early system 11 chipset, which isn't compatible with the release chipset ). Cost outweighs interest though.

It is possible that the dtl-h500 shares the same pinouts for the controllers as the later dev kits. In which case you could at least test it out, or even create an adapter so it would plug into a playstation.

I wish I knew people that just sent me free stuff.

Yes but by an engineer who worked on the project. Not some random guy from the mail room or something.
