And then they blame the used game market...

Game devs are always blaming something for not having huge profits... The second hand market, piracy or any other lame excuse to complain about low retail sales. Funny that they never mention the other side of the story.

Well, March is easily becoming the "shit bomb" month of the year (so far). Three famous franchises had games released this month and all of them were trashed by the reviewers / gamers. The games? Silent Hill Downpur, Ninja Gaiden 3 and Resident Evil Operation Racoon City. Generic and uninspired games, full of technical issues, that rely only on their "big" names to sell.

    No thank you.

Destructoid take on David Braben (Frontier Developments) is spot on.

PS: By the way, have you guys read that Capcom are mad with hackers that are unlocking characters from Street Fighter x Tekken? You know, those "extra" characters that are on disc, but you're supposed to pay more to be able to use them.

All i can say is : In your face Crapcom! Just reading the comment section on those 3 links shows how terrible it's their image these days.

Wait, are these games really bad? I was planning to buy the SH and RE games in a day or two. I've been looking forward to both of them for long time.

I was already disappointed when I read that RE:ORC has no local multiplayer, but I was hoping at least Silent Hill would be good. (I've liked every SH game so far)

The theme song of the Silent Hill game is by fucking Korn. What did you expect? Also, I want GoH to explain to us how good Ninja Gaiden 3 is gonna be despite looking terrible in the videos.

Take that Capcom, if its on the disc, the caracters belongs to tha owner of the game, he has all the right to unlock it without paying because he already paid for the game. Try making some REAL EXTRA content

$20 for some characters does seem like daylight robbery to me - Think of the man hours involved in drawing them, then match that with (many) thousands of dollars they're likely to rake in? Seriously, those characters are probably more valuable than gold (and then some...)

They shouldn't have put them on the disc in the first place. You bought the disc, you own (the license) to play what's on it. Seems quite clear to me.

It seems like games companies are just bleeding consumers dry. One can only hope that as the tools get easier to use, the inflated cost of actually coding a game begins to drop and we start to see more AAA titles produced by smaller companies - as it used to be when it all started. Remember, most of those million dollar budgets are actually millions of dollars spent on advertising. You know, trying to sell us shit by ramming it down our throats so even if it sucks, people will still end up buying it - and the accountants will be happy.

Destructoid is dead-on. A different take on the same subject, here's Steve Ellis's (of GoldenEye fame) blog on marketting, publishers, and the whole insanity of it now:
    http://www.crashlab.co.uk/blog/blog1.html

You know what, let's all jump on David Braben's bandwagon. Somebody might read my book and sell it or something. I'll just go out and torch some libraries. Problem solved.

Honestly, they've gone mad with the whole DLC nonsense and on-line activation. Of course, why wouldn't I want to have my computer probed every several seconds to ensure I have a direct internet connection for no reason pertaining to gameplay? Seriously, do you know how many people have started cracking games they legitimately own just to get around ill-concieved or system-breaking online verification? Heaven forbid you want to play anything nowadays on a computer without internet access. Paranoia.

now I know again why I still don't own a current gen machine. they're all friggin thieves. games & money have always gone hand in hand, but the last few years its really getting out of hand.
I really hope it comes to a big crash again sometime in the near future, its been way too long.

The industry is insane right now... But the beauty of it all is that I'm still just playing Super Smash Bros. Melee and it's as fun today as the very first day I played it. There's seriously so many great games that have come out over the last several decades that I haven't even touched. But that's just me, I'm quite behind on playing the "essential" titles.

OFFLINE yes. It's fully acceptable to unlock this content there. No different than Game Genie.

Capcom and the console makers don't have to provide online support for users who willfully break policy.

Downpour was awesome! First they make getting away from the bus difficult and confusing, then the lady guard acts ridiculously stupid and looks like she falls to her death (but probably not).

Then you encounter an official trope known as the 'magical negro' who quite literally appears to be magical...and black (hit up TV Tropes for more examples). AND THERE ARE ROCKS EVERYWHERE TO PICKUP! Its a geologists paradise! My favorite is running up the stairs towards the end of the 'other' world only to run the other way for 30 steps and have you get dropped back into the regular world.

AND to top it off, I loaded up Silent Hill HD last night. The graphics seem to have been improved over the PS2 version but that isn't saying much given the XBox and PC versions were leaps and bounds ahead of it. The voices in SH3 are distracting; at least SH2 has an untouched option.

I like this comment. Used house sales are harming new house sales too. The bastards .

And don't get me started on cars .. They should self destruct at 80,000 miles.:encouragement:

Not really that good of an analogy, considering that unlike games, cars and houses deteriorate with time.

Technically, but it takes a looooong time compared to cars and houses, which need regular repair.

I know what your saying but if i used my game discs as often as i use my car or house they would need to be replaced or repaired also.
To keep my games in great condition i copy them and use the copy. But your right the analogy was loose.
