RE:CV was a showcase game for the Dreamcast, I'd demo it in front of friends and their jaws would drop, along side NFL 2K, one guy came in late and asked which teams were playing (this was mid spring) that blew him away at the time.
I am a gamer. I embrace the gamer life style. Please take my money. I want to buy this game 3x if needed. I want the limited special ultimate edition with the Camo Helmet and COD energy drink holder. Please store half the game on the disc, and the other half as DLC so I have something to spend my money on next month as well. Also, don't make the game too difficult, and add hundreds of easy achievements. I am sort of insecure and need to feel better about myself. I want to be the hero. Its okay if there are NPC's on my side killing all of the enemies in the single player campaign. As long as the screen flashes and I don't die then I am cool with it. No longer than 5 hours max single player please. I have 10 other games in my "backlog" I need play through before I sell them back to Gamestop before I buy my next reality driven military shooter simulation. I kill n00bs on Fridays if you are down for pwning people.
re: capcom and characters on the disc... it has been argued that they put the characters on the disc so as to prevent excessive downloads. a bit of code from xbox live or psn telling the console to allow access to the characters is better than forcing a download of them to everyone. Scenario: If player 1 plays as a standard character vs someone online who paid for an unlockable, you have to have the model available to display to player 1 who did not pay for that DLC... therefore you would have to FORCE a download on anyone who plays online and plays someone who paid for the DLC. This way the forced downloads do not happen. Not defending anyone, just stating what i had heard which in a way makes sense.
Sounds logical to me, but you know what sounds even more logical to everyone except Capcom's wallet? Just make the damn characters playable from the start without having to activate or pay for them, since they're already included in the game.
agreed, but gaming is a business... I feel the future is free to play anyhow, or a much much lower price for the base game (say, $20) and then add on via micro transactions other frills... ever notice that the top grossing games on the Google Play store are almost all FREE? TOP GROSSING. MADE THE MOST MONEY. THEY ARE FREE TO PLAY. https://play.google.com/store/apps/collection/topgrossing?hl=en however the large companies are still not on the bandwagon with free to play mechanics such as that. There is a dev (cant remember who) that said only Sony was really on board with the microtransaction idea, but that microsoft does not allow for it. Meanwhile, both sony and MS try and charge me $30 for a game i can purchase used on physical media for $12.00 The industry is definately going through changes it seems to my uneducated eyes.
Tons of games require updates before they'll let you play online. While you don't have to download the character data, rest assured you'll have to download game updates and other things in the coming months before you can go online. The only difference between this and other games is that it doesn't automatically segregate people that haven't bought the DLC; like on a FPS game where you can't join games that use DLC maps. TBH I've never seen anyone bitch about having to download updates in past fighting games due to DLC character additions. The only complaint I ever heard was that the costume packs in SFIV weren't seen by opponents who didn't download the pack also, which is more of a poor design implementation on Capcom's behalf than anything. Nevermind the fact that the game requires a forced system update, or forced download to access Pac-Man and Megaman.
They COULD segregate the two from playing one another, but let me play devils advocate here and assume from a marketing perspective a person who has not paid for a character might be more... inclined to want to pay after seeing the character they did not pay for being used against them. Just an idea of how they may be thinking.
"This title has a new update from Xbox Live, would you like to download it now?" Bam. Info for character is on player's HD even if they didn't buy it.
How large are these files? Just asking, not antagonizing. Guess if Microsoft had some arbitrary limit in place that it could be a reason. I ie, if ms decided that for the sake of "user experience" large forced updates are bad for users they may limit them... Similar to apples limit on many things in their closed system of iDevices. Either way is this happening on PSN? if not I call collusion between cappy and ms?
