Although the irony of posting a video made by a scammer in a thread accusing someone of being a scammer is delicious.

 

Yes add the irony of linking to a biased sarcastic site for "information" to that.
Nothing anyone ever says should be taken too seriously, but that doesn't mean that everyone lies and talks shit all the time. Use your brain at all times instead of deciding before hand what is true and what's not.
Him being a douchebag has nothing to do with the point he's making in the video I posted.

I don't think he is a scammer, a thing to keep in mind about him is that he's a pothead. And potheads tend to go "up in smoke" from time to time where they are apathetic and don't do anything productive at all and just smoke pot in giant quantities. This happens even while they're on an assignment, of course this assignment is either moved to the back seat or pushed out of the ride completely in favor of smoking pot and not doing anything. It doesn't matter if the job at hand is dear to heart or not, number one prio in this state is to get high. And this can go on for months.

 

Here is my Mature and Valid Argument in support of whatever this thread is about.

7Force, clearly fancies(likes or loves or lusts) Anita, and that's fine as this can be blinding, or prehaps thinks she puts forward a valid and compelling argument for all the oppressed and objectified females out there. And that two is also fine. We're all entitled to our views and feelings, even if they are wrong and completely without logic, backed up with warped and twisted facts, blown out of context(or a new context invented to suit any particular cause), and damn any logical, coherent opposition as name calling sexist savages or worse.

Governments, Organised religion, fascists, dictators, politicians, extremest groups all use similar tactics, whether they have been picked up through education or in practice, it's all the same.

Create a plausible enemy - mass support - profit from said support(or use to carry-out or influence your will). - Defend and retain or even boost support by becoming the victim - making opposition look like the big bad wolf.

I love that song! And have done since it was released in 2001. I didn't even know what it was about back then but it's so catchy and has a simple and postivie melody. :applause:

 

Discounting the fact that Anita has edited videos out of context to fit her personal agenda (e.g. claiming that Krystal was to be the only protagonist in Dinosaur Planet), discounting the fact that she's shown very minimal use of the money she received from stupid assholes (to do something she was doing for free beforehand), discounting the fact that it's been discovered that she's taken other peoples' gameplay videos without giving credit (something you had better goddamn hope a person would do, especially if you're expecting a level of professionalism by virtue of receiving money to do this little series), discounting the fact that she deliberately victimizes herself (and demonizes all her detractors as misogynists/trolls)...

What gets me about Anita Sarkeesian is that she is absolutely not a fucking gamer, and she has shown that she has very little grounds to make her criticisms about videogaming. No, this isn't a "someone who isn't a cook can still tell when a dish is terrible" situation; at least that patron is able to determine whether a dish has too much salt/is burnt/etc and will have real grounds to complain. See, instead of addressing the legitimate issues of sexism in gaming, Anita evaluates non-issues (tropes), and by evaluating characters as tropes (i.e. at face-value), she passes surface judgments which are bereft of the original situations' contexts and pathos (e.g. Earthworm Jim deliberately parodies the damsel trope), putting all characters involved in the most negative light possible. In the few instances she does bother to present anything that's either beyond that face-value or is an exception to the tropes she discusses, Anita rejects those positive occurrences for asinine reasons ("Peach was playable in SMB2, but it's an accident and doesn't count" is particularly noteworthy). This all results in an unfortunate conclusion: she hasn't spent an appropriate amount of time with the games she discusses (that is, played them at all), nor has she even skimmed through their respective Wikipedia/TVtropes pages enough, which proves Anita Sarkeesian is ​not a gamer. She's not even a real feminist (but that's for another discussion, children); all she cares to do is inflate her ego by bitching about something popular in a controversial/edgy manner to garner resentment, which in turn generates attention and sympathy.

 

I think that these two posts are really what people not aware of what the topic is about, should really see. You two both worded it perfectly I think.

Oh for crying out loud. I didn't expect this thread to be reasoned or intelligent, but even by ASSEMbler standards, this is awful.

 

This whole thread has been blown way out of proportion. If you watch one of her videos you can see she is being logical. At least i can see how she gets to her conclusions.

I think many of her conclusions are blown into large negative stereotypes on primary male video game designers / players as well. All in all if she really wants change then she needs to actually do something. Spreading awareness to people who aren't going to do anything via youtube videos isn't going to do shit.

She can complain all she wants but this is the video game demographic. Mostly males who want to save the female characters or seeks revenge on the person who killed their beloved female character. The female players also largely feel the same way. The majority of females i've come across expect the man to be the "man". Of course not all females (and males) feel this way, but thats the majority. Large businesses are never going to market towards the minority. Personally i think we should all be equal and the woman should have just as much responsibility and independence as the man, but i'm not the majority.

 

It's also the sort of bullshit that Anita's tumblr/reddit whiteknights cherry-pick in order to martyr her and paint all her dissenters as evil sexist pigs.

To be fair, even if this topic truly wasn't mainly about those things, the issues that Prometheus brings up ARE, for the most part, contributing factors to help determine whether or not she's really a gamer, therefore I find that they do merit mention; however, I do see that how they are discussed can be (and often is​) an issue.
