Yes, if you solder a CIC6105 by your own. Can't imagine that he sell cards other than CIC6102.

Q: Unless of course some elite hacker decides to look into Banjo-Tooie's security [IMG]
A: I gave a certain guy a 64drive and that is no longer a problem

Banjo-Tooie hasnt actually been cracked yet though. Only the PIF challenge/response algorithm has been discovered, and this allows the ROM's to run on emulators, not actual hardware.

Its possible that marshallh is planning on implimenting this algorithm in his FPGA, which would then allow Jet Force Gemini and Banjo-Tooie to run without being patched/cracked. If this is what marshallh is planning, then it would give the 64drive a definite advantage over the EverDrive 64.

I don't think that Marshall reverse engineers the cic's just to please the emulator scene :p

I think there might be some some confusion here - X-Scale worked out the PIF/CIC challenge/response algorithm:-
    http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34033
This currently is only useful for emulators.

marshallh is working on decapping/reverse engineering the NTSC N64 CIC chips:-
    http://www.retroactive.be/cic/
To the best of my knowledge this is unrelated to X-Scale's work, and reverse engineering the CIC chips themselves would have no practical use for emulators, but its extremely important for actual N64 hardware as in theory we should be able to make clone CIC chips, and so make complete 64drive's without robbing original CIC chips from 'donor games' (Although the prohibitive cost of producing game cases might mean its still worth using donor games)

A clone N64 CIC could also be made region free, so that a 64drive that had one installed would work on both PAL and NTSC N64 consoles (Assuming the cartridge casing was made with a 'region free' shape, or that the N64's cart slot tabs were removed)

So to surmise, there are three possible ways of running Banjo-Tooie that I can think of:-
    - Impliment the PIF challenge/response algorithm in the 64drive's FPGA
    - Create a clone CIC-NUS-6105/7105 chip
    - Crack/patch the games

With the decap work it might also be possible to create a clone PIF-NUS chip that always gives the game the correct response regardless of the installed CIC type (Or without even requiring a CIC!) but since this would need to be soldered in the console it would be an impractical solution for most people - although still fantastic if you wanted a region free N64 console.

I think when marsh posted that, he was figuring LaC was going to release a 64drive compatible crack (or maybe a crack for any warez cart).
This is only my expectations; take them with a grain of salt.

i wonder marshall do you have any plans on incorporating a gameshark into the 64drive?

Not a day goes by where I don't check for an update. I feel like a kid waiting for his "favorite new toy" to arrive :p

It would be really cool if this first run was numbered or made limited somehow, just to show we stood by marshall's side this whole time ;-)
