I'm glad to hear it worked out for you, next time don't be so negative, ask around about the seller before you start panicking.

He's still assembling them and shipping them out, don't worry, you'll get it eventually. He had a ton of preorders, it'll just take some time.

On a side note, there should be quite a few wanted updates coming to the 64drive as well, so it'll be well worth waiting.

Also, you can use a Gameshark in USB mode, it's been confirmed. However, it only seems to work with 6102 games. This may be resolved with an update with proper cheat support though :p

If anyone can assemble a database of Gameshark cheats for every single N64 game and PM it to me, it would be much appreciated.

When I unplug a controller when playing F-Zero X on 64drive and plug it in again, I can't use it anymore until I press Reset on the console. The same with every controller but with this game only.
Is it a glitch in a game or in 64drive?

Sounds to me like it's a glitch with the game itself, but I don't have the actual game to test it on.

I'll run it by marshall when I see him on AIM.

    It's a behavior of F-Zero X. Nothing to do with 64drive.

My 64Drive finally arrived and it's just awesome! Best video-game investment I've ever made. The second best is my Cube64-DX which is working AWESOME with the 64Drive (although I find I need to have the Wavebird turned off when turning on the 64Drive or else it scrolls down forever)

Anyway here's my problem: Donkey Kong 64 doesn't seem to save correctly (or at all?). Am I missing something obvious?

The only info related to this issue I could find was this: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34506&page=2

However that information claims that it works for the 64Drive. I played DK64 for about 2 hours, saved the game inside the game, quit, then pressed the RESET button. I then re-opened DK64 from my 64Drive and noticed my save game was gone. A save was created in the \saves directory.

Is there some special settings I should use? I don't want to start playing with things unless I know what I'm doing.

Thanks DarthCloud and Marshall for everything you do!

Tim, could you tell me the date when you've paid for your pre-order? Thanks.

Eh, I haven't had that issue with DK64 at all, saved just fine for me. Maybe email marshall about it?

Thanks for the reply! How far into the game have you gotten? Based on that thread the save works fine up until a certain point in the game. (Some said specific events, others time.)

EDIT: I've just checked again and noticed that the save must be working, sort of. The game remembered my 'Surround' sound selection. Just my game itself seemed to be lost. So I'm inclined to think the issue is related to that thread I posted..

    I'm going to experiment further.

What rom are you using? Make sure you're using a clean rom.. Also, that thread involves the ED64, not the 64drive.. Two different products.

I haven't had an issues with the game, maybe it's because I have a 6105 CIC.

Ofc you don't have any problems with the copy protection if you have the 6105 cic ;-)

Tim there are two things you can do:
    1. Use the cracked Donkey Kong 64 rom or
    2. Solder a 6105 cic into your 64drive

Thanks! I'm all for soldering in a 6105. I was a little confused on that and how it impacts how the 64Drive works. Can you clarify real quick?

Adding a 6105 (I assume I can take one from my Banjo-Tooie cart?) allows for games that want a 6105 to use a 6105, and all other games to use the 6102? Or does adding the 6105 essentially ignore the 6102?

I'll definetly add a 6105, just for my own knowledge would like to know how it works . Also, once I add that, I can play Banjo-Tooie and Jet Force Gemini? Is there anything I can't play using a straight (non cracked) rom once I add the 6105?

    Thanks!!

To my knowledge you can play every game with the 6105 CIC soldered in because there are only 3 games with those advanced copy protections, Banjo Tooie, Jet Force Gemini and Donkey Kong 64 and all of them use a CIC 6105.
6101/2/3 don't have any extra cic protection after the boot. There are games that check for the saveram but that should be no problem for the 64drive.

If you solder in the 6105 you need to connect those two solder pads labeled bank.

But since you do have Banjo Tooie as a cart why don't you just use the cracked versions of Donkey Kong 64 and Jet Force Gemini?

    Because I can :).

I want to be able to play every game and backup every save, including Banjo-Tooie. Mostly just to say I can, but also because I think it's awesome. I mean we paid enough for these things, might as well make them perfect.

However, out of curiosity, what are the filenames for the correct cracked DK64 and JFG that I should use should I get lazy?

EDIT: For clarification. Do I remove the 6102 and replace it with a 6105? Or is there a seperare location to solder in a 6105?

    You remove the 6102.

EDIT: According to a guy in the topic you linked, the problem evidently happens after the first crown.

I'm going to sit down after I eat dinner here soon and play up until that point. I have the 6105 CIC in mine, so if there is some protection for the game regarding the CIC, I'll let you know.

Also, if anyone can get a savefile before the first battle crown, that'd be helpful as well.

I have a couple of questions. Any help is appreciated.

Are save game files (EEPROM, FlashRAM, SRAM) interchangeable between the 64drive and Everdrive 64? So a save file could be copied and used on both devices?

Does anyone have an idea how far the pre-orders have progressed? I have been trying to work it out by comparing the order, shipping and received dates posted by users on a few forums. Of the buyers I have seen, the one who has most recently placed an order, stated when they placed the order, and received their 64drive, is ToastBucket, who claims to have ordered it on August 25th, received the shipping notice on November 1st and received it shortly after on November 3rd (http://forums.modretro.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=8044&start=50). Of course, people may well have received theirs and not posted anything about it, and several people have said to have received theirs since then, but have not stated when they ordered.

For this reason, I would like to second tdb's question - Tim, if you don't mind my asking, when did you place your pre order?

Please, don't mistake my intentions. I'm not complaining about anything. I'm just hoping to try and gauge how things are progressing.

    Thanks again.
