I think our last attempt at a general anime thread withered away and died. Then again that sounds alot like the current state of anime. Anything good floating around these days? I'm watching Kill la Kill on Netflix. It's batshit but Aniplex is putting the show out which means only 3 people in the entire country will beable to afford it's blu ray set.
The third season of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure...do you even need anything else? I've never really cared about anime but JoJo rocks.
Welcome to the NHK, Blue Exorcist, Ruroni Kenshin, Lucky Star, Kuroko's Basketball & most subbed only shows from the 90's like Slam Dunk + others
Oh, um Attack on Titan, Deadman Wonderland? Plus Kuroko's Basketball is actually still a new anime series as it's just bout to get into a Season 4 production as of now.
I'm probably going to watch Memories (メモリーズ) tonight. Not a new film, but it's a great one. I just wish there were a Blu-ray with English subs.
Have you tried the Sonico Animation? I found it pretty funny, but of course story is completely poor. Ikkitousen being my favourite anime, Xtreme Xecutor was english dubbed recently if you haven't seen it. Those have only really been the only animes I've been following, maybe a very slight stab at Ranma 1/2 but I haven't watched any other season other than 1 and 2.
Ranma 1/2 was my shit back in the day! me & my lil bro always used to watch it whenever he gets home from school.
Rant time... Anime has been seriously pissing me off. I can't tell you how many series I have watched as of late where the studio will do the first few chapters of a manga or light novel series and then just drop it and move on. Now I realize it takes time for manga to be written and even more time to animate it. Best to stick with the original material than pull a Full Metal and wing it. Some of these series though have gone enough years make new material available or even finished their manga run and still nothing. These studios though have become so schizo though, jumping from whatever the latest franchise is to the next bringing them out way too early into their runs without any thought to the endgame. The anime industry talks about how the market is shrinking and losing profitability. No wonder with such bad business practices. Who the hell wants to get invested in and buy a product without any sort of finality!!!
Attack on Titan Welcome to the NHK Neon Genesis Evangelion (oh please don't ask me to be more specific) Freedom Project (great once you get past the odd animation style) Great Teacher Onizuka Dragon Ball/Z/GT (of course, just plowed through Dragon Ball) Ghost in the Shell (all of it) Cowboy BeBop Space Dandy Big O Gundam Wing Gundam OO Eyeshield 21 Tenchi Muyo I haven't watched much new stuff lately if this list isn't obvious.
How recent are you looking for? Most of these were on Netflix at some point Darker Than Black - 2007 Death Note - 2006 Claymore - 2007 Monster - 2004 Attack on Titan - 2013 Elfen Lied - 2004 the following kept me busy while looking for others to watch: Witchblade - 2007 Dance in the Vampire Bund - 2010 Rosario Vampire - 2008 Demon King Diamo - 2010 Rin - 2008 Chobits - 2002
Regardless of the time they were made, here are some of my favorite anime series/films: Akira Nausicaa (and almost any Ghibli film) Tekkon Kinkreet Memories Meikyu Monogatari (aka Neo Tokyo) Cowboy Bebop The Animatrix (technically an anime, I guess?) Paranoia Agent Perfect Blue FLCL Ghost in the Shell Metropolis There are more, but that's all I can think of at the moment. By the way, I watched Memories last night. That is a great film, a real work of art. Apparently it wasn't released outside of Japan until almost 10 years after its original release. I really hope they do an American Blu-ray release at some point.
Overrated!=garbage. You're implying it's garbage. Sorry, just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's terrible.
That's not necessarily true. Something can be overrated but still good. That just means it's good, but not as good as people say it is.
Just to clarify, the != translates as "does not equal". But like you said, something can be overrated and still be good, which was my point. DSwizzy appeared to be implying that overrated means it's garbage.
I see, I didn't know that. I thought the symbol for "not equal to" is ≠ or =/=. I thought you were just really excited about the word "overrated".
Another Shiki Depends on how new we're talking and what types of anime I suppose. If there's anything horror or psychological, I've probably seen it. For an older one, I cannot stop recommending Monster if you don't mind it being a tad slow but the manga for it was fantastic.
Dude, i'd never said it was garbage! i'm just saying there are wayy more enjoyable shows than Hypeball Z
