Don't want to play Elder Scrolls until a year after they come out anyway, that way you can pick em up real cheap with all the DLC, and the modding community will have fixed up all the bugs, animations and textures.... And added the nude mod.
Yeah, I've barely been playing games lately. Mainly some of the PC ones I've gotten from GOG and Steam sales.
I have phases when I don't play or have interest in anything game related at all, I logged on here yesterday for the first time in 3 months I believe....but I did buy Arkham city yesterday even though I haven't booted my 360 since completing mw3 at Xmas. I find when I'm playing I lose interest really fast and it worries me that nothing keeps my attention anymore.
Me too, it seems like I stopped having an interest in the new games coming out since around 2007-08 and so on; it seems like games developped recently nowadays tends to be made with all the same recipee - orientated for making the most cash out of the game i.e. sells it the most. Developpers know all the great titles that were a commercial success in the industry and I think every games tends to looks or feels the same as the best of its categorie. Also, I find that sometimes companies tends to just prolounge a videogame series to the point that it has so many games it becomes like unappealing. If you see the zelda franchise, I love the fact that they made zelda games for almost all ( if not all ) the nintendo console so every generations of people can play with that. But I think it became like redundant and tiring to still play a game that has the same recipee from the first of the era , 20 years old. ( if you take the newest zelda on wii, skyward sword, its again the same thing as twilight princess and the same as n64, and the same as on the old NES, simply with gameplay differences and the plot was slightly changed but it stays a zelda game as we all know it ). I just thing that it would be interesting that companies rather tempt therself with a new recipee in the videogame - something different -. (EDIT): ''There is a consensus in the industry that it has increasingly become more "hit driven" over the past decade. Consumers buy the game that's best-marketed but not necessarily of the highest quality, therefore buying fewer other games in that genre. This has led to much larger game development budgets, as every game publisher tries to ensure that its game is #1 in its category.'' quoted from the '' video game publisher'' page on wiki.
I think part of the reason people sour on "modern gaming" is because compared to retro games, you don't know so much about them. Most importantly you don't know what is good and what is crap. There are some pretty good modern games out there. There is also plenty of filler and crap. But even in the old days this was true and you avoid it. Really it's about the familiar. Though I agree the rising expectations of quality is part of it. Another thing is probably the most popular genre now is FPS or similar shooters which a lot of people don't like and those that do probably have very high standards for them so many shooters they feel are crap. Either way, just play what you want. Really it doesn't matter to me. I'll play an old NES or Gameboy game just the same as I'll play a PS3 game if I like it, if it's fun and interesting.
About a week ago I actually boxed up my 360. Once school is out for the summer I'm gonna build a little collection of the games I missed out on growing up and try to get some love back for gaming. But this last year or so in modern gaming has crushed my passion for gaming.
I quit gaming after the SNES, that was the last system worth playing IMO. The big thing for me was the buttons, I was fine with Atari's one button and then the NES's 2 buttons and then it went to 6 buttons on the SNES. For the most part it was fine but I always found the "L" button a bit of a pain, especially on fighting games like Street Fighter. After the SNES though, it just got stupid. Buttons all over the freaking place and too many of them. I did purchase a PS3 a while back and I found that even though there were more buttons than ever it wasnt that bad because of the way the way the controller actually fit in my hand. However, the new problem I found was that it literally felt like I was studying for an exam just to learn the controls or to learn them well atleast, especially on sport and fighting games. I miss the days where you didnt even need to look at an instruction manual and you could learn the controls in like 5 to 10 mins (with the exception being street fighter, mortal combat and games like that). Anyways thats my 2 cents and Im happy to say I sold my PS3 about 4 month ago
I don't have any problems with controls, and PSX and Dreamcast had TONS of great games, same for GC. For modern games well, i hate things like when you need to pay real money for opening new stuff in game, instead of unlocking them through gameplay like it was before. You get cars, weapons, thongs, toothpicks, costume colours instead of full disc game expansion... for a price of almost a new game. Also whole achievements (collect ten thousand tons of dragon poo and get the "Ultimate dragon poo collector" title...) is boring really.
The newest console I own is a 3DS. I never mess with it anymore. I have 3 N64s, 2 model 2 Sega Genesis with model 2 CD system and a 32X each, 2 model 1 Genesis, Nomad, Game Gear, 2 of the Radica TV Legends thingies (they count since they can be hacked for a cart slot connector) 2 Saturns, Dreamcast, DS Lite, and 3DS. The Dreamcast is the newest system I really bother playing with anymore. I've played a lot of the newer games and not impressed. Granted I stick mostly to the Sonic the Hedgehog stuff but the newer games follows the rest of the crappy game crowd. Especially with Sonic '06. WOW! Talk about a shitty game! No need to say anymore on it. And don't get me started on Sonic Colors... I now spend my gaming time using my Everdrive MD on one of my Genesis consoles for games. I switch them out every 3 days just because. This includes the Nomad. I'm only 22 but I'm a stone age gamer. (not meaning to rip off the person here with same name. I love that site.) Good old gaming days. I was playing Sonic 3 like it was TASed when I was 5. I'm that good. I just recently downloaded GH3 for PC, played for 3 days, got sick of it, and went back to trying to beat the Sonic 1 hack "Sonic Lunacy" on real Genesis hardware in lunacy game mode. Still have yet to beat first level...
I'm actually finding GOOD games out for this current generation. The last several months have been low blow after low blow...the industry that I love is destroying itself. And it saddens me. However, I think if you look hard enough you can find amazing pieces in this generation. Even in the Wii - where it's filled with tons of shovelware that is better forgotten - you have games such as the Bit Trip series, No More Heroes (1 and 2), Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Super Paper Mario... I actually went through Amazon's entire listing of Wii games and added all the ones I want onto my Wish List. I should do the same for the 360.
Recently, current games definitely haven't kept my attention at all...I've played some Diablo 3 and very infrequently turned on my 360 to play Trials Evolution. On PS3 I did get the Doctor Who game, but I've only played it a couple of times because it's awful. At this rate I'll probably not get any of the next gen consoles when they come out, at least not until they drop in price.
