so the freeMCBoot is the explot itself which gets installed and uLanch is the autorun app, right?

    I'm sorry I didn't give more details.

When you run the FreeMCBoot installer ELF, and install FreeMCBoot, you need 1.5Mbytes free I think, say 2MB to be safe. After FreeMCBoot is installed, or perhapd before you install it, you need to copy the program you want it to launch into you BxDATA-SYSTEM folder on your memory card.

Now the BxDATA-SYSTEM folder is region related, the x is A for US and Japan, and E for Europe. So what you should do, is copy the ULAUNCH.ELF file to your BADATA-SYSTEM folder if you are U or J region. Copy it to your BEDATA-SYSTEM folder if you are in Europe. Next, you need to rename the ULAUNCH.ELF to BOOT.ELF. So now you're got your BOOT.ELF and installed FreeMCBoot. If you power off and on, when your system loads it should load ULAUNCH.ELF from your memory card which you renamed BOOT.ELF.

Then you should use this menu to do whatever you want, such as loading the ESR.ELF program. That's pretty much all there is to it I believe.

It's easier for people that had the PS1Drv exploit using a PS1 trigger disc as they just run the install and their BOOT.ELF that is probably ULAUNCH is already in place. But hopefully you see now that this isn't very hard to do.

As I said before you could make a disc easily. Just build a DVD or CD iso that is in PS2 format, put a SYSTEM.CNF together with ULAUNCH.ELF as the boot program on the disc, and put the FreeMCBoot installer and ESR on there as well. You will need to pad the ISO image because if a disc isn't a large enough volume the PS2 may fail to recognize it.

Ok, I have the PS1drv exploit w/KeyLauncher on memory card and can boot to the menu. However, I do not have a hard drive anymore. For some reason the PS2 will not read my thumb drive either (LED doesnt even come on when plugged in)

So the only way is to burn the files to CD but I'm not sure what you mean by
PS2 format.. How do I go about this? Burning the files normally is no good.

Edit: Just found an old HD to use, going to load the files to it and see what happens.

Yeah I'm going to need some help. I do have a hard drive installed now and
using the PS1drv exploit and I can install games to it via WinHiip but have no
way of getting the FMCB and Ulaunch on there as I'm not sure how to make
or take an existing PS2 image and inject the files without breaking the image
where it won't read in the PS2 at all.. If I could just get the files on a disc the
PS2 could read I can use the PS2 Keylauncher file browsing utility to launch the installer... Any ideas?

Edit: I got it running via Keylauncher and an external USB hd to map and run the .elf file. Sadly fmcb 1.5 locks
up on install but I can install 1.4b just fine.

Don't worry about 1.5, FreeMCBoot 1.4 is all you need.

My Japanese BB Navigator seems to boot from HD without a memorycard or boot disc so. This made me wonder if it was possible to make the exploit boot from HD? Would be real nice if HD loader could boot from HD.

My guess is that you probably could have it boot from the HD, but probably only if you have an official 40GB Sony PS2 harddrive. Third party HDs would not work as the system would know it's not the correct drive.

sorry to bump up this thread but I need to know If I can play PS2 imports with this method

I have a fat PS2 with FMCB15+uLE+ESR, no modchip, I dont have any PS2 imports at the moment to test this, but I wanted to know if its possible as I intend to get a few import titles soon.

For your imports you will have to back them up a patch them.

    with this can i
1.use the datel force progressive elf as my autolaunch
2.insert game i want upscaled (already patched)
    3. turn on ps2 and play?

my current method requires 2 diskswaps and a lot of guessing.

i know the other exploit methods couldn't get the upscaler to load homebrew or a backup without first swapping a retail disk.
