I still have my Sega Master System 2 that I bought around 1992 I believe. My folks couldn't afford much, as they put my sister and I through private school. I bought and paid for it myself by mowing lawns and the like. I think the first game I bought for it was Ghouls n Ghosts which I still have. I have modified this console (dual controller pause mod, light in power switch, AV/S-video/RGB out [played via RGB-component converter], 50/60Hz switch, safe JPN switch, FM board), sometimes I am not sure how I feel about that, perhaps I should have bought a 2nd one..... This console (and all the master system games/accessories) will be pasted down onto my son and I hope he appreciates it as much as I have.
I started out on my dad's Atari ST (Mouse Trap, Major Motion and Enduro Racer come to mind), which he eventually sold/gave away/whatever - so no, I don't have those any more (and they were pirated anyways). Later I got my own computer, a 386 DOS box, and with it came a long period of shareware and more pirated games. The first VG I paid for with my own money was Sam & Max Hit the Road, which I think is still around, somewhere in my basement...
I sold the original SMS2 with Alex Kidd I got on my birthday, I don't remember why. Could be to buy some games for the Lynx or Mega Drive later.
Quite liked the story, I some what related to it. Although I'm not married and don't have children, but that's what I plan to do with my collection too.
here's my first game ever; wish I still had it; I guess it stayed at home when I moved out & my parents threw it away or something... I miss those days, when everyone in class had a different one
Nope, even though the TRS-80 is still in my parents basement as my father still has fond memories of it. Though i don't miss this beauty of a game in the slightest tbph:
My first game was Donkey Kong for Game Boy. I played it until I got stuck and I haven't gone back to try again in over a decade. I think, because of this topic, I'll go back and make another attempt. I'm that way as well. I'm sentimental with all of my games.
I think I do, although it's difficult to say what it is, as my brothers had computers before I did and I badgered my parents into buying all sorts of odd things. I think it's either Future Wars, Spy vs Spy or (the quite horrible) Kwik Snax for Amiga, or Sonic The Hedgehog for the Game Gear.
My first game was the Atari 2600, Target Fun (sears brand). Someone stole all my 2600 carts, but I still have the 2600 in it's box in storage. My first System after the 2600 was the SEGA Master System with light gun (come with Safari Hunt and Hang On). Although I blame playing Hang On for 4 hours straight with out restarting made me find racing games boring. :/ =hugh
Yeah I do! "Parallax" and "Asterix" for the C64. It took me ages to figure out how to play the first though, had to read a mag review to figure some basics out. Also borrow a Megadrive with Aladdin and Sonic 1 for a while, but that was years later. Fun games those two!
God, you're all so young! Yes, I still have Hungry Horace, which came with my Spectrum... which I still have! I also still have my first Binatone video game system (built-in pong games), and my first Atari 2600 - my first true video game console.
I stil have my TI 99/4a that was my first "console"... First game i played was the Port of Donkey Kong or Defender... but from Atarisoft (would love to have seen that liscensing deal)
Still have my first game, Hang On & Safari Hunt that came bundled with the SMS in '86. Prior to that I had a bunch of Atari carts but they were just hand-me-downs from my older brothers. That was the first game that was officially "mine". The system died right before I bought a Genesis, but I still use the Light Phaser to this day.
My first console was a Commodore 64 when I was 8 years old. I got it with a box full of tapes, which I still have on top of the wardrobe. I used to love the Dizzy games, perhaps I might have to revisit them one day.
I think the very first game I ever bought with my own money must have been Rick Dangerous on the good old Sinclair ZX Spectrum, I distinctly remember looking at the screenshots on the back of the box [which had been lifted from the Commodore version] and thinking it looked awesome! Sadly I have no idea what happened to my original copy!
I have no idea what my first video game is. Probably something on the PC and probably something like Commander Keen, you know, simple platformer that a 3-4 year old child can actually play. Worms 1 is also one of the first video games I played with my brother, we found it so hilarious back then. I still remember the day my brother bought Worms 2 and we played it for the first time. I can honestly remember thinking how great the animations were, a true improvement over the "lemmings" of the first one xD
It seems my hate for free bundled video games has reminded me what game I originally got for my nintendo 64 - It was't Super Mario 64 as I had previously stated, it was International Superstar Soccer 64 @ £20 or so and I was stuck with it for weeks.
Great game. One of few games I can tolerate before the NES era. I don't understand how people can enjoy games that have graphics and sound worse than NES. -and dont get me wrong. I played a Speccy and an Atari before I ever even touched the Mega Drive (first console I ever enjoyed)
