Yeah, I'll just put it up there on eBay like you said. And my fuss is that I have had the system since near launch and EB only gives $50. Which really amounts to not even half what the system is worth today.

And don't get me wrong. I completely understand about people getting someone else's old gear. If you buy a new product that's what you should get. Fortunately, I've never stumbled across an item I've purchase that's so-called new and not have it be new. But I guess if I had, rather than be upset about it, and maybe I'm being simple-minded, I'd merely go to the store where I purchased it and exchange it.

*edit -- And not that it matters a whole lot, but I also thought I'd mention that I take such good care of my items, the consumer would more than likely not be able to tell it had been used...

Well I am a little smarter then I may appear when it comes to be a good Switcher lol. When ever I switch a game or something I will keep a disc or something that will not allow them to resell the game so someone else. That makes sure another gamer dosent get it.

So the only thing/person who loses a bit of money on the whole deal is the store. And when talking about Wal-Mart they have NOTHING to worry about. I know a whole lot of things ethics and all but everybody does something that other people frown upon. Being a pirate just happnes to be mine lol. Anyway I wasent trying to piss anyone off and I hope nobody is, I was just putting in my 2 cents to try and help this guy out.

Don't try to justify your admitted outright theft and fraud. The stores do not lose anything because half the time they will just put the item back out on the shelf without inspecting it and let someone else buy it. Do you honestly think that the people working in retail stores know what should be included with the games, movies or hardware which is returned to them? Let me answer for you: no, they do not.

So what happens? The next person to buy that particular item tries to return or exchange it for a complete one. Good luck if it is a game, since most places will accuse you of losing the missing component or trying to defraud the store. I have had to pretty much stop buying anything other than day-of-release items in retail stores because of people like you.

I don't care how you try to justify your actions, but the best way you could have helped the original poster was to offer legitimate, legal ways to sell the DS or simply not say anything at all.

Come on, that's ridiculous. If they'll let you return it as new they're damn well going to sell it as such. So you nick the manual as well as the serial code before returning the game? Congratulations, that would irritate me even more.

You're just passing the problem on to someone else - and they might not get so lucky on returns policy.

I think you're still not getting it. If you want to get free shit off companies, that's up to you. It's not my business if you're a pirate, it doesn't affect me. The point at which it becomes unnaceptable to me is when I buy a "new" copy of a Gamecube game and notice later the VIP points are missing. Why should I be forced into catching the bus back into town to have a heated argument with an irate sales clerk just because some smartass defrauded the store and then me? Do whatever you want to do, but at least take some responsibility for your actions.

Well, I appreciate your input, as well as your opinion. I would like to clear up misconceptions you have about me, though.

For starters, there's absolutely no way I would even consider buying a Gamecube game, for example, and steal the VIP points. I would never even try something like that when it comes to games, especially b/c to my knowledge, once the game is opened, most stores won't even allow a return. So just to clarify, that is something I would not do. Others, maybe. But me? Definitely not.

The only time I have ever "pirated", is when it comes to systems, in situations like this. Plus, systems and other bigger ticket items, tend to be easier to return, especially when you have a receipt. And, I appreciate the other posters response, but I don't necessarily agree with keeping something from the box. Me personally, I will return all items the product came with.

So, I'm not trying to be argumentative with you, I would just like to understand me a little bit better. And if you're not open to it, then so be it. I can't make you believe a certain way. And that's fine with me. I have my own take on things and you have yours. To each their own...

I couldn't agree more. Dishonesty is the same no matter who is effected by it, and if you're brazen enough to admit it to the world then expect to be put down for it. Theft is wrong no matter who the victim is. Anyone who has had to make do with returned goods that are below par when they believed they were buying a new product will likely have a strong opinion about this and it's good to see people are willing to voice that opinion and stand up for what is right.

For me, I recently received a copy of Gran Turismo 4 that was clearly returned at some point (it had some light surface scratches and a finger print on the manual). It was meant to be new and was vacuum sealed. It was a gift from my Girlfriend that she brought back while visiting her parents in the USA (the trouble with owning an NTSC PS2. Unfortunately there was nothing I could do back in the UK, and in the long run it wasn't such a big deal, but it took some of the pleasure out of opening it.

You obviously don't know how things work. ;)

Large stores don't pay outright for inventory. If the store is stiffed on something it goes back to the publisher/developer. When prices drop on a game across the board, it's usually the publisher/developer taking the hit.

Well, I guess I never thought of it that way. And after some thinking about it, I feel bad. Especially knowing that, at least in your case, you received a gift that was supposed to be brand new only to find it with obvious evidence to the contrary.

And now that I think about it even further, I'm glad I couldn't exchange it. I think, after hearing what everyone has to say on the matter, especially from this kind of a community, which I hold in very high regard, I've changed my take on the matter.

Nonetheless, I appreciate everyone's input and a thank you to those who offered their feedback in their own unique way.

I think this is one of those reasons I'm glad to be a part of this nline community, Assember games.

    Peace...

Yeah. You'd be suprised at how much stock larger corportations, especially those like Wal-Mart do NOT pay for in advance. Simply having stuff come in on order and paying net 90 or more (often after they've sold through stock) allows them to make extra on the float.

When one store has a sale for a dollar or two, it's that store taking the hit. When there's a big price cut, don't think for a second that any store takes the loss. For example, when a console drops in price? Any legit retailer is credited for any current inventory as if it were originally on the purcahse order at the new price.

Our DS pod earlier today after the service guy had exchanged the graphics and the DS for a DS Lite for free! AND the thing isn't released here for another week!

    I don't think you'll get that lucky, though! ;)
