Looks abit ugly to me bezel is too big. I was kind of looking forward to this (however i also really like the JooJoo) but after seeing Steves comment above i thought maybe this will be better however i saw this only a few minutes later: How can this come at all close to the best web experience without flash!
I lol'd. He said netbooks are shit, yet here I am sat reading this on Engadget on my Netbook. With Flash. It may be very swish, but how can it be the best experience ever without the Flash plugin? Until it has that, surely it would remain second fiddle to a computer for browsing?
Not yet coming to it in the next few mins i think. With a release date and hopefully iPhone 4.0 firmware. Some specs: 1GHz Apple A4 chip. 9.7" ips screen Bluetooth & Wifi speaker & mic 16-64gb 0.5inches 1.5pounds 10 hours video battery life 1 month standby
How is that a netbook replacement? To communicate effectively with that you need a keyboard and it looks like the onscreen keyboard will be small. But still. The majority of the idiot masses will buy it just for looks.
Its not the keyboard size im worried about as it looks fairly large specially compared to the iphone its more of how i would type while holding it.
Keyboard is probably bigger than a netbooks keyboard, considering the iPads size.. I guess youd have to rest it on your lap..
Its all down to price i think now. The JooJoo has its advantages on paper however when will it come out!!!! Steve just let out that there is also a 3g model! $15 for 250mb per month and $30 for unlimited. Its also prepaid. I wonder how many models there will be. 16gb, 32gb, 64gb, and with or without 3g! That pretty much sucks. Meaning you cant move a 3g sim from your phone into a iPad for free data. Actually what the hell is a microsim?! Cant find anything on google.
Well I've been sat here since half 5 watching Star Trek DS9 and refreshing Engadget every couple of minutes. Gotta love geeking it up on 'Apple Days'. I'm certainly very interested. I'm waiting for them to announce price and availability.
haha yah same. Its out in two months for wifi and three for 3g. Its also got a keyboard dock available. I wonder what the UK price is going to be as if it translates to around £330 for the base model it will be a big seller.
lol, at first I thought this was another Onion parody of Apple or something. Even "iPad" sounds more like a feminine hygiene product than..whatever they call this. Guess the large screen is good, but because of the on-screen keyboard and the limitations of the iPhone, I don't see this being as good as a netbook, no matter what Steve Jobs says
Yeah. The app store is nice and all.. but my netbook will allow to me run free applications, eg Open Office for a start. They might have poor quality displays but I dont care that much.. its been a great asset at uni and its really not that slow. For my light usage theres little in it in comparison to my laptop..
Yep. Oh well if the base model 16gb 3g comes in at £400 or very close then i might pick one up however im still not convinced on the Flash and the JooJoo is still looking pretty good with the larger screen. I have to admit the build quality looks amazing and if the browser supported flash i could probably use this 50% of the time instead of my macbook pro.
So you basically cannot input any sort of text while standing, unless you use a cumbersome one handed method.. I fail to see how this product will have any real use other than to help push the price of ebook readers down.
Oh this does kind of kill the Kindle DX. I mean im sure the kindle is better at being a ebook reader however for the same price the iPad offers so much more. I guess so just like all those award people with their touchscreen laptops that are at your door doing surveys and things.
Yeah I can't see anyone buying a standalone ereader device when something like this is available at a comparable price. I realize there is a difference in screen quality and reading on eink is nicer, but that price is going to look insane when compared to something like this. I'm not sure how Apple would have done it, but I certainly would have liked to see some way to actually use the thing while out and about. Data entry will be a pain while doing anything but sitting in a chair. I know Steve hates the whole stylus idea, but honestly it is nice to be able to scrawl out a web address as if writing on a paper tablet and that paint program is going to prove useless unless we have a finger painting as art revolition sometime soon.
Yeah i cant see the kindle dx being on top of anyones list anymore. Also anyone know what a microSim is? Still cant find an example of one.
