Supposedly this thing still doesn't support flash. =/ -edit- I didn't see your edit of the first page. =/
Nothing magical about it. No stylus support (for something called a Pad) is awful, not that I expected it. Im quite content with my motion tablet from 2003, 1.2ghz processor. The downside to my current tablet is battery life (3 hours), and no accelerated graphics really. Cost me 250$ish, used sure, but come on, I expected more from Apple. Sad really.
I love: +typing on touchscreens +non-pocket-able "ultra-portable" devices +feminine-product-esque names Anyone remember the MacBook Air? I don't.
Could be cool to watch movies on. I couldn't carry something that size around. I don't even like carrying my DS around let alone a tablet.
Not really. It's way too big and expensive and the battery life is not sufficient for a couple of books on holiday without charging. It is also a fingerprint magnet, if it is anything like an iPhone. I doubt it will do that well. I'd much rather have a Macbook (if it wasn't for Mac OS) I discovered my Apple Newton Messagepad the other day. Mint!
I think this is the same size if not smaller then the Kindle dx, costs only about $10 more so i cant see either of your points on that one. I also havent been on holiday yet without having my laptop/phone/other electronics having to be charged so its no big deal to me. edit: http://www.sizeasy.com/page/size_comparison/27620-Apple-iPad-vs-My-Item Thats iPad vs Kindle DX Also i said the difference was about $20 its actually $10. edit: This is the specs for the JooJoo https://thejoojoo.com/sites/specification It has some much better features then the iPad such as the larger higher res screen, flash support and camera built in. However the battery on this is only 5 hours (so i expect real life use to be less) and no 3g. Both this and the iPad have the same base model price however we dont even know if the JooJoo is gonna ship let alone at the $499 price.
Youre talking about two different display technologies though. If you like reading off a LCD, then okay, but e-ink has its benefits
Astonishingly awful, even for Apple. I hate how we've had tablet computers fairly mature for years now, and no one cared, but now that almighty Apple has one, the media and public want to go ga-ga for it. Ugh. The cult of Apple really grinds my gears...
As i said im sure the kindle is much better at being an ebook reader but if your looking at buying the DX for $10 more the iPad does so much more. I cant see many people having an easy decision between the two. Tablet computers are hardly mature and for some bizarre reason those who are pushing out cheap tablets into the market right now are using a cheaper version of windows that lacks all the tablet functions.
eBook readers arent about features, they are about reading without burning your eyes out. The premium exists because of the display Tablet PCs have been on the market for years, and function quite amazingly. My Tablet from 2003 has the same resolution as the iPad, and plenty of other features that match it. Sure, its thicker, bulkier, blah blah, but for a device that Apple has been working on for the entire decade, its not exactly "Magical" like they make it out to be.
I had no idea the Kindle was so pricy. No wonder this technology is limping along (aside from eBook prices)...
Interesting at least, I wonder if developing for it will be at all different than developing for the iPhone. This could be pretty cool once it's hacked! However: http://www.apple.com/ipad/#video "When something exceeds your ability to understand how it works, it becomes magical. And that's what the iPad is" Arg. ARG.
I am sold... but what's with the price Steve? PS: Why is it 4:3 instead of 16:9 or 10? Widescreen electronics with small bezels are more desirable by consumers.
I think its all smoke and mirrors - everyone was all hyped by rumour that they are forcing themselves to love whatever Apple release to the wild. So what that it can run iPhone/iPod Touch apps? Is Facebook gonna be awesome at 2/4x the size? I think comparatively to the Tablet PC, the iPad offers nothing at the moment. No doubt all the Apple fanboys have raging hardons.
Ah Steve Jobs, mr bullshit master. So the cheapest iPad is $499... so what could you buy for $499 or less? Well you could buy an Asus T91MT... a multitouch netbook that has more features (bigger SSD, keyboard, webcam, ability to use as a tablet and a normal netbook) then the er iPad and being a netbook you can put it a table and view the screen whilst sitting down and use it in comfortable way. I do hate the way mr Jobs keeps on trying to rubbish netbooks, I can still probably type this message in quicker then I would be on an iPad or iPhone... and I can plug my netbook into a HDTV and view Top gear at 1080p...
To run iPhone Store apps natively (but larger). Letterboxing is bad, remember? Uh... okay... so... Someone tell me how this is unavoidable However, if they're all unlocked, the price point isn't bad for the 3G model. If I didn't have an unlocked iPhone I could buy one of these w/ the money saved in a year by avoiding the the multiple, lube-less ass fuckings dished out to me by my Japanese provider, whatever 3G network roaming picks for me up, their landlords, and friends charge me when I use apparently the most expensive technlogy in the world: international roaming. 4 trips a year @ roughly $200 each = $800. But, this would basically be a glorified Kindle. I already have a Macbook Pro for watching videos in the bed and masturbating in the toilet when I don't want to risk a pop-in by the wife.
