Considering the gaming support on the Mac, I don't think there is much to look forward to there.

It would have to be the next generation if it were to happen. This generation is already too crowded, but then this topic has been raised before.

Much like the recent Nvidia & MS GPU for mobile devices, this wont equate another handheld to go against DS/PSP.

At most this is probably going to be a more advanced iPod that supports something a little more then just 2d cell phone games.

Apple has had game development postings up before. Patent wording aside, this job posting is probably just for the iPhone or the iPod Touch.

    Let them.
Their iPod game offerings haven't exactly set the world on fire, nor has Mac gaming in general ever really taken off.

I used to be a diehard Apple fanatic, but lately my feeling towards the company philosophy and products has changed.

I was never privilleged enough to own a Mac, but I ve played around with them in school back in California.

To my understanding, Macs were about practicallity and more importantly, assisting the professional in his job.

Naturally, the company has grown up and now it offers everything in an elitistic slick little package , borrowing many exclusivity/compatibility notions from the console world.

a light-hearted set-top box-like game's console for the wide crowd seems within the reach of Apple in the following years in my view.

Yeah, and that's sort the natural evolution a company goes through after progressing out of the niche product stage. Inevitably, some of the hardcore early diehards feel left behind as new generations flock in droves.
These things come and go in cycles though.

Sorry for the off topic rant.

Apple, and others, have tried to directly combat the IBM PC. Now that it's a totally different market though, it's understandable why they'd wish to take sidesteps in domination.

    Bert hardy,

Thanks for the interesting news, but in the past Apple has really sucked! I wonder if they have learned anything yet?

2D cellphone games? I think it's time to take a look at modern mobile phone gaming. The latest ones in Japan can produce graphics in 3D way above anything a Saturn, PSX, N64 could ever do. Sort of like a slightly lower PSP if you will. Even my 1 year old and 2 year old phones have more sold 3D than a PlayStation.

Personally I hope Apple fall on their arse with this. They're getting too greedy now I feel.

I said 2D Cellphone games which for the most part look like GBA era games which is exactly where iPod Games are. I made no mention of 3D or advance cell phone games which are pretty much putting the DS to shame.

I know very much about Ridge Racers Mobile, RE4 and the likes. Actualy if I had the cash I would love to have someone in japan buy me a compatible phone and load it up with this crap. Sadly probably not worth it for RRM since it's pretty much the PSP Game which i've played to death.
