I've found myself playing alot of Ridge Racer lately, I just yesterday finally got Ridge Racer 7. I've played the Hell out of R4. Thanks to the rock solid drifting and always amazing soundtrack Ridge Racer is right up there as my favorite.

Same Deal with Outrun. Drive real fast and drift to great music.

Initial D is on it's way and I might if it's any good check out Wangan Midnight.

    Is Wangan midnight any good?

As for Ridge Racer 7, is it really worth getting? I've been thinking for quite some time. The last proper Ridge Racer i bought was RRV.

OutRun is a dream. I even listen to Splash Wave when i'm driving my real car.

Wangan Midnight for the PS3? I think it's pretty generic. Story mode is japanese only language.

Anyway, if you really want some fun racing game, get MotorStorm Pacific Rift. DiRT 2 is very good too. Wipeout HD Fury is mandatory.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is amazing as well, if you can live with the whole EA DRM stupidity. I couldn't.

Ridge Racer 7 is pretty self explanatory. I don't fully grasp the handling yet, more used to F-Zero or even Burnout.

WM is good in the arcade. On par with Initial D. I like the steering wheel they use. It's closer to a real car than a race car. Unfortunately, I don't know what the home version is like...

As an aside, Zero4 Champ is one of my favorite PCE games. I wish the story mode wasn't so text heavy, or I'd play that (does anyone know if a translation exists? I can load it up on my TurboED)... The 2 player drag race mode is a blast to bust out when my roomies & I are home for the night.

Nothing more fun than any of Midways Thunder games. It was only unlisted because it did not cross my mind.

6 has Better music some of which thankfully is DLC in 7

Ridge Racer is a great racer serie if you're really into unrealistic fun bringing only arcade racers, just like me.

Still love all the 32bit RRs as well the PSP and 3DS one. One of my favorite and probably against most peeps opinions, is RRV. I think it was really great and probably even the best in the serie.
Type-4 sure was the best on the ol' PSone.

Never really went into 6&7 since they also looked quite different. So can't really say much about them.

OutRun anyway is a best of its kind and never gets older. Especially the Sega Age version on the saturn which let you ride your testarossa in smoothly full 60fps through our popular landscapes. best outrun experience one can just get.

Then there was Daytona USA in the arcades. One of the best arcade race games ever.
Unfortunately any of the ports couldn't bring over the same feeling as in a 4p. or 8p. sitdown cab in the arcades, even with superimprooved grafx like on the DC.
Didn't play much of the other racer series.

And those Wangan games are utterly crap!

Nitrus takes too much away from Ridge Racer. Ridge Racer 7 Still feels like Ridge Racer especally after playing the Hell out of R4 on my PS3 before I had any real notable games for it. I can't speak for 5 or 6 I didn't have either for very long.

Outrun was one of the first games I fell in love with I have the Saturn version but I might just get it for the Megasia too when I get my Retron 5. Ridge Racer is tense with it's drift heavy racing. Outrun it's just you, the timer and your girl and these unique locals.

Daytona is great and all but I am more in the Sega Rally camp. Sega Rally I always felt controlled better than Daytona. Steering in Daytona was always loose, not so much in Sega Rally.

You mean for the Mega Drive? Don't waste your money. You not really want to play a 15fps outrun unless you are life-threatened to play it.
Saturn 60fps Outrun is all anyone ever would need. period.

Do you talk about the steering in daytona arcade or the home ports? Daytona controlled perfect in the arcades (but also needed a hell of practice to get there), which is one of the big flaws of its home ports.

Daytona is a real arcade racer, whilst Sega rally is an arcade racer too, but with much more realism put in. I liked sega rally too. Especiallty the first one.

I'm just saying all around for Daytona. BUT the first Saturn Porn controlled well...did everything else poorly but it did control well.

and eeeeh, I used to play outrun on the Master System so not a huge step back. I really just want the Mega Drive Version for the Extra song.

LOL @ GT being the "simmest" sim...try Grand Prix Legends, it makes GT look like goddamn Driving Miss Daisy. Or try iRacing if you want something more recent.

Turbo Outrun never gets enough love. But Outrunners... There used to be a REALLY boring Chuck E Cheese that I went to with my cousin Not so much as a Street Fighter there (which was all I cared about at the time) But then there was this Outrunners marchine We Spent HOURS on it not getting very far at all and I remember just how good the music was. Then I found it it was going to the Megasis....

    and that port sucked.

go figure then Again Megasis Turbo Outrun didn't do the Arcade any justice either. I wish those two games would get ported to some compilation.

Before I forget, is Sega Touring Car worth my time? Or should I just track down it's soundtrack for use in a better game

Yeah only reason to hate Ridge Racer is if you suck at it. Learn to Drift and the magic will happen.
