I know that there is a prototype cartridge of Diddy Kong racing but that is the only one that i have seen proof of.

I have heard roumers of twelve tails and perfect dark on real prototype cartridges but can anyone confirm that any other Rareware N64 prototypes exist?
(p.s, please note that im not talking about the blank Rareware carts that are everywhere)

Well, from what I understand there aren't any, only the 'blank' carts as that's what they used during development.

There are carts, they are just very few and in the hand of a collector who will not sell.

There is an encrypt/decrypt module, then a standard n64 flash cart goes on top.

The cart is useless without the encrypt/decrypt module.

Gilgamesh posted a while ago a Diddy Kong racing prototype on one of the very early prototype cartridges.

I have heard of two others but these are only roumers.
one of the Zelda ocarina of time debug prototypes had traces of bad fur day on it.
I'm thinking rareware would possibly send a prototype to NOE for approval.
I'm guessing that this would make rareware prototypes the rarest in video game history?

I wouldn't blame them for not selling!

Prototype collector's are notoriously tight lipped, ist a shame because I love to talk about the history of my prototypes.

The 4 I released came from carts with the security dongles.

Did you own the actual cart or receive a dump from one?

Thats a conker cart or was as I think thats one of the temporary flash carts, but regardless Ive never seen the cart that the 4 rareware protos I released are from. I just know they had a security dongle. It was 2 PD carts and 2 Conker.

I own this one with the red flash card and some CIC chips, but yes this doesn't have anything loaded onto it.

    Thanks for your input :)

Collectors should be a lot more open on what they have, it stops a lot of bullshitting you see around betas.

it would make things so much clearer if we all shared our information about prototypes.

One frustrating thing though is once you announce that you have a beta everyone is on your back telling you that you should release it for free.

I would love to see a sticky thread where people can show off their betas and knowledge of their background without getting hounded for a release.

I have several betas that I would be glad to share my info on when I finally get a ntsc compatible tv.

Im as open as I can be for most stuff. There is a reason for some things to stay underground for a time.

Understandable, I heard that you had some troubles with your 4 rareware titles.

I think my tally is at 30k on prototypes the past 9 months, needless to say my wife hates me!

Ive shifted towards more of a hardware focus as of late. More interesting for the time. I dont think I spent that much this past year, although the value is certainly quite high for some of it. If you come across any fun Xbox stuff, you know where to find me.

I was very close to getting into n64 hardware dev equipment but my money is starting to dry up.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for some Xbox stuff for you :)

One of the things that I do is give my info to another website and they post it anonymously. I then link to it when someone has a question. I avoid all the "Gimmy da romz" hassle and the info is still out there.
