*Update*: I threw these out and now have and use real modbo 4.0 v1.93's.

    Hey everyone,
I decided to start up a side job on selling chips and modding systems for mainly Canadian convince so i looked up a couple suppliers and i found this. Seems legit XenoGC 2.0's and Aladdin XT PLUS2 are originals but they had modbo v4.0 copys and they only sold the original ones by 100's and the copys by 10's. So long story short they said they'd give me 10 original ones but im starting to think their the fake ones. Installed one in my V9 PS2 and seems good, Matrix logo at the beginning etc, but when i try to save some settings in the matrix configuation menu it just freezes and when i restart the ps2 it doesnt save. it boots ps2 backups/Imports and ps1 imports but no ps1 backups. so i tried to enable PSX multi-disc setting to see if that would fix the issue but then this problem occured.

    Modbo 4.0 Copy vs Original.png

    Just made this pic.

Thank you guys for looking .

Bad_Ad84 told me clones of modchips don't matter as its a few chips on a PCB. If the chip can't save settings maybe the memory or something is faulty.

take a picture of the whole chip.

I know some MODBO-CHIP are re-branded to Modbo 4.0, I hope you got the 1.93 and not the 1.99 or 2.0 which have lots of compatibility problems

these are 1.93. Just installed a new one just to be sure if its a defective or not and still freezing when trying to save settings. I wish DMS4 or Matrix were still around

When you save settings its supposed to say you need to reboot (and stays on that screen). Are you saying it locks up before that?

Maybe there is a problem writing to the eeprom or its been hard wired to read only.

Sounds like it cant write the settings.

Whats the part number of the eeprom? might be worth looking up the datasheet and see which pin enables/disables writing and checking it out.

Afaik the original 1.93 Modbos are able to save the settings.
I even remember that at one point (around 1.82 or something?) they even supported official Matrix Infinity update discs to update themselfs or something.

    Yes, they are.

Which is why I think the eeprom is write protected, causing it to lock up

There are also some clones that have the EEPROM on boards, but no tracing leading to the IC.
I'll try to find that picture again.

I cant seem to make out the writing on the chip. Is it the 8 pin chip or QFP?. I ordered a pair of 20X Magnifying glasses which i think should come possibly today. From what i can see from just the naked eye is "27F29724"? which is the bottom of the 8 pin soic?

    A7MC(X)424? on the top X=?

The 8 pin chip is the one of interest.
