I had an older brother so I've been playing SNES and NES since I was born. I remember buying N64 games at the store. I specifically recall my mother making me go to bed while my brother was playing paper mario. I was 7 years old at the time. I love Mega Man on the SNES. I guess I am somewhere in-between.
Old School Vet here. Born in the end of the 60's, before pong made it's entrance. Discovered video games with pong, early-mid 70's. Wanted an Atari really bad, but didn't have a TV, so no way would my parents get something that needed a tv (parents, go figure, dang hippies). So I had to be jealous of friends with Atari's, Intellivisions & Colleco. Got a few hand held games, like those Mattel Football games. Then I discovered home computers and programming. to make a long story short, i have been playing video games for over 30 years and plan on dying with a gamepad in my hand. =)
Have to say i'm a vet, been gaming from a young age and enjoyed the SEGA Master System, MegaDrive, NES, SNES, Atari, Commodore 64, amigas etc and of course remember the arcades well. I'm not snobby about it i like the fact that youngsters and newcomers in general are interested in "retro" games, for me i dont yet see the likes of ps2, gamecube and xbox as retro, but now we have a whole generation who grew up with them so see them in the same way the older folk see our megadrives and snes' etc. it's all good.
I am a vet, and I long and pine for the 80's and 90's. My first system played was an Atari 2600, but the first machine I owned for myself was a Commodore 64. I am obsessed with the vibe of 90's geekery - old games, old anime, and the mystery that came with it back then. I am in my early 30s, and not getting any younger. But I want to recapture my youth, because I think I wasted it the first time around.
VET. my first gaming experience was my cousins vectrex. I got a colecovision that year for Xmas. I remember my uncle bitching how home consoles would ruin the arcade industry. 72 hour drunken genesis hockey tournaments through college. I'm surprised that thing didn't melt. 9/9/99 was a great day.
vet junkie. played frogger in arcades, & wished the most : the EM game i played in my youth. succeeded 30years exactly after !! (and the game only functionned TWO seconds..). played every arcades i could encounter. so been arcadejunkie for my youth. then later : vectrex, amstrad, pc XT EGA. loved the PC XT/AT period.
A vet' and proud of it. Forget all that Atari 2600 stuff. Gaming became great with the arrival of the Famicom and Master System. Then it became amazing with the 16 bit age. I'm trully happy to have experienced that first hand as it happened. First ever gaming experience was some Grandstand SPORTS thing. Basically Pong. Then in 1984 came the Commodore Plus 4. Basically a smaller supped up Commodore 16. In 1987 or was it 1986? I got a Master System. Ever since then gaming has been part of my life and always will be. Thank you Sega. You did somethings right back before things went sour.
I remember begging for a power glove. It never came true. I didn't even own a NES -- we'd just watched The Wizard in the theater and that was all the reason I needed. It's so bad.
Vet, Born 1971. First arcade machine: Space Invaders at local sports centre. First home system played: Commodore PET First home system owned: Sinclair Spectrum
You're really that old? I thought you were around my age. I only started gaming mid 90s, wish I started earlier but I'm glad I didn't start now.
Veteran ... First console played was on a Pong system. First computer that I played on ... was on my friend's Radio Shack TRS-80 with a state-of-the-art cassette tape drive. When I was able to buy my first computer; it was an IBM clone, an 8088 with 5 1/4 floppy and turbo. I played many a DOS game back then. Yeah, I maybe old as dirt, but at least I'm still above it ... and gaming!
I am also a veteran ... Born in the late 60's. I started playing the "Soviet gaming machines" - electronic devices (analog arcade machines) that were in our parks, stations, etc. The first game - "Hunting", "Sea fight", "Safari". Many years have passed, but I still play and love video games and not going to stop.
I guess I have to be a veteran, too - the first video game system I ever played was the Magnavox Odyssey, which my dad brought home from a trip to the US when I was about 10. Of course, being a US unit it wouldn't display on our TV, so the first thing that needed to be done was to modify it to work with 50Hz frame timing - which my dad thought would be more interesting if I did it, with him just providing hints. As a result, I can honestly say I've been hacking video game systems for longer than I've been playing them. Later we got a Channel F (also US spec, but by this time we had a NTSC capable TV), An Atari 2600 then the 7800 and a Famicom. About this point, I realized I really liked video games
I'm 33 Dood, don't let my occasional immaturity fool you. Actually that's what keeps me young. Although I do owe this board an apology for 90% of it over the years.
I'd put myself somewhere in the middle. I started gaming around when I was 4/5 years old, and have been playing ever since. I started with my NES, then slowly moved up from there. So I guess I've been gaming somewhere around 20 years, so I'm not sure exactly which category that would cause me to fall under. To quote Sterling Archer, "a little column A, a little column B."
Veteran I suppose. I saw Super Mario 64 and Tomb Raider being released. Actually, at this time I already did all Master System's Sonics playthroughs with and without all the Emeralds in one day. I was a happy child. n.n (some people say that I'm still a happy child)
