You can probably blame marketting for it. They decide how saturated the market might be, how many tag words seem to describe their product, which generas happen to be selling 2-4% more than others, what platforms are growing at a greater rate than others, and come up with a few dozen reasons why they wouldn't make as much money as they feel they ought. Never mind it would obviously sell well; it's that they might not make as many millions as they feel they potentially could have. To be perfectly honest, BF1 and BF2 both may have been viewed as little more than promotionals internally. Then, with all the nonsense talk about how iPads were supposed to replace the entire console and PC market...
    Ridiculous.

Ellis's math might be questionable, but his take on how Tetris wouldn't survive a marketting meeting nowadays is spot-on.

Besides, there's quite a bit of potential money to be made off gutting companies, which is one reason LucasArts is doing it so freely. Compound that with the rather nasty condition that they still walk away with all the work done to that point regardless, and that they didn't necessarily pay for all that work for the months leading up to FRD folding.

You mean Battlefield 3? This topic is about Battlefront 3, the cancelled Star Wars game.

As to whether or not it's worth it, sorry, can't help you there. If it's cheap, I don't see why not.

Unfortunately, we have rising development costs and declining gamer IQs to thank for that. Think of all the developers with genuinely great ideas that are being turned down by corporate suits who know little to nothing about video games and hold the "If it doesn't get CoD numbers, it's not worth our time" mentality.

I'd like to shake your hand for this comment; I was literally about to post along the same lines.

And the general gaming community wonders why gamers like us treasure the classics..

Not shocking, LucasArts is a total mess. This game and of course the canceled 360/PS3 Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings. People wonder why Lucas had to sell to Disney? Because left to himself, he's a financial weapon of mass destruction.

Actually, it's Disney who killed it (one of the perks of them buying Lucasarts), along with Star Wars 1313. They now own Marvel & Lucasarts(or what's left of it) - the best we can hope for would be Spider-Man vs the Sith. No matter what, anything under either will be a disappointment for the next few years.

What no. Disney came along after the game was cancelled, for the version that is being talked about here.
