You didn't have Sunshine on there, too bad casue I would have voted for it- does everything 64 does but cleaner. However, I haven't yet played Galaxy, so that knocks it out of the race.
Think I'm going to have to go with SM64 here, though I would agree that SM64DS is pretty much an all round improvement over the original. If only you could use an analogue stick!
Definately Super Mario World. Amazing from start to finish. Not one second was I bored or wanting to see something "New." Just incredible. And I agree, Super Mario Sunshine was a pretty fun game, just too many people compared it to the previous Super Mario 64.
This is very, very tough. Super Mario 64 is probably my overall favorite Mario game, even though if feels very little like the Mario games of old, but that's okay. 3D Mario is a different breed of Mario that encourages exploration and unothodox ways of getting stars/shines that I really dig. Super Mario Sunshine was vastly underated, and only seemed dissapointing next to the revolutionary Mario 64. Super Mario Galaxy was fantastic; a beautiful game that differed enough from previous 3D Mario's to make it great, and veared the adventure genre in a bold new direction that would be hard (and stupid) to try to imitate. Then again, Mario (adventure) games seem like a genre in and of itself. The 2D Mario's have so many good games to mention, that's it's almost impossible to pick just one. If I had to pick though, it would probably be Mario Bros. 3, with World being a close second. SMB on the NES is great for it's simplicity, and is nostalgic as hell, considering it was the first game i ever played. NSMB was good too, but just seemd so..."un"hardcore, if that makes any sense. A good game, but too easy.
Well, it would have been more fine if the game had given you a reward for collecting every star in the game.
I seem to be the only person on Earth who like Sunshine. What can I say, it was fun, and one of the few games in the last generation I actually felt motivated enough to be a completist about. Can't say the same for any of the xbox or ps2 games I own. Just got New Super Mario bros today, while it's good I can see why it's not on the list.
Sunshine was a great game on its own, but lacked considerable polish and especially variety for a Mario title. I often found myself enjoying the "hidden" levels where you lost your water-pack more than the normal parts of the game though.
The only game I regret not putting on the list is Super Mario Land 3 : Wario Land as it is a great little game and probably the best Mario platformer on a handheld
wow, you actually said something right h::110: Too bad they fucked up the rest of the WarioLand series (for me at least) PS: closely followed by SML2:Six Golden Coins
Wow, wow, wow, hang on! According to my 4 year old son (the real NEXT generation of gamer), the best Mario "Bros" games title is 'Luigi's Mansion' and I must admit I think it's pretty excellent. Let's not leave Luigi out in the cold here.
As for Jump'n Runs, it's definitely Super Mario World from the SNES. Mario Kart, on the DS, is one of my favorite racers aswell. Can't get enough from both!
Excellent game that one, but it doesnt fall in the platforming field - the field of reference with regards to this poll!
