You can swap the grey plastic laser cover with the black one from the 1001.... no cutting required. The PS1 will output RGB with a PS2 component cable, then use a composite sync.
I got help with the lasers recently, I think it was only a few weeks ago. The original SCPH-100x (I got the PAL version) used a AAM laser which was all plastic and wore itself out (the plastic therefor no longer being level and unable to read discs). I recently bought 3 AFTERMARKET lasers off Ebay, ACM, ADM (or was it AEM?) and a BAM. They were all IDENTICAL the only difference was the BAM had the grey top and the ADM (or was it AEM?) had the longer ribbon. So I guess the Chinese cloned the BAM and just swapped parts around to suit other models. I couldn't find a AAM laser so used the ACM in my 1002, unfortunately (because I was a dumb-ass) I threw out the original laser so had no top plate and had to file the case for it to fit....
PSone had a horrible power port, well on my one at least. I think the solder joint isn't as good as it used to be. You need to fiddle with it to get the power working...
The ones with RCA blugs are: SCPH-1000 (Also has S-video on the back) SCPH-100(1,2) SCPH-3000 SCPH-3500 SCPH-5000 SCPH-5903 (The VCD model) DTL-Hxxxx (Any debug or yaroze should have them) The AAM is almost exactly the same as the plastic ACM lasers. The only difference is the metal plate on the bottom of the ACM laser itself has an extra and nonfunctional tab and is attached a little bit better. The rest of the drive including the cover plate are the same Edit: The extra projection is on the AAM not the ACM, everything else is correct.
Mine has a nice and tight power port. However the eject button/mechanism broke and the lid would not stay shut. Turns out the spring in that mechanism is made of plastic and it had lost some of its 'springyness'. A small modification allowed me to fix the problem.
i have 2 PS one consoles and 3 Ps1s SCPH-1002 , SCPH-5502,SCPH-7502 never had any issues so far with them
I have the same problem with the lid, but are there different PSone revisions as well? Not sure why my PSone's power port doesn't work so well...
There are 2 revisions, a few years in they shrunk the motherboard slightly, this was done arround the same time as the last price drop, the large board version usually came in a plain silver/gray box, the small board version came in the black with a psone on it box. BTW the power port problem is caused by the solder joint for the center pin breaking, it is a 10 minute fix, all systems with a board mounted coax power port are at risk for this, I suspect that the right angle plug design and the portability aspect is what results in it breaking.
No moding required. RGB from the component out and composite from the back of the unit or lightgun breakout box...
I just tried this on my SCPH-1001, and you're right! It does work. It looks really good, too - much better than the shitty SCART cable I got off of eBay. Unfortunately I can't use it that way with my PS2 because I don't have the breakout box. Is there an official name for those things? I may have to hunt one down.
