Biggest shitstorm in gaming ever?

Of course media outlets don't cover this story, because it's a totally non interesting story about someone that -before this article- hardly anyone ever heard about.

 

Except the people that follow people like Phil Phish and other "indie icons" for lack of a better word. And the people who follow Kotaku and the likes a lot. Which are the people screaming the hardest for "change", yet still buy the a reskin of the same core game a damn lot.

 

Gaming journalism is just one decades long joke littered with punchlines like this.

 

Unfortunately Gaming Journalism is as immature as the people on their staff. When your writing team consists of young 20 somethings who had a PS 2 as their first console and think they are above it all, this is what you get. As for Kotaku, you are talking about the worst gaming site on the internet. The only reason to even go to that site is if you like Zelda themed cupcakes or other such nonsense they post there.

As for Zoe Quinn, I think alot of this is karma. She cheated on her boyfriend with five guys and lied about it. That was how this all got posted in the first place. It just happened that one of those guys worked at Kotaku in some capacity and people ran with that idea. The guy at Kotaku didn't even do reviews there. He was just breathing and within 5 feet of Zoe and that was enough for her to sleep with him. That may sound cold...but its true.

And yeah, she has a public persona of being this great female voice for gaming. Thats wonderful except in her personal life it sounds like shes an awful person. Some artists are like that. They are capable of making great games or great art but on the personal end they stink. I liked Fez though I didn't finish it. The music in that game is amazing and the whole concept is brilliant. It just so happens that Phil Fish isn't the nicest guy in the world. It happens.

 

It's sad that we're at a point where we pay attention to these broken people.

 

Seems like there are much more important things to talk about. Sex "scandals" are stupid, and a waste of time. If it's consensual between two adults, who the fuck cares? Why is it any of our (the public's) business? Again, there are much better things to talk about.

 

Hmm... This has turned into a hysterical debacle. The boyfriend or ex was wrong for posting her business out in the web. Going as far as contacting the people involved is the bare minimum as a gentleman. I do know he's going to have a hard timing picking up girls now.

As for Zoe the truth is we don't know, Maybe her boyfriend had insecurity issues and this is all is a delusion. Maybe the offense is right, but a lot of under the table things happen and mostly for money. millions of people have committed such acts to gain "power". Pointing fingers at one girl only takes the perspective off the bigger picture.

 

This deeply offends me, & I think this is relevant to any real gamer here. This is the biggest shit storm in gaming, ever, no doubt. I wanted to play as Solid Snake, yet it has me playing as some loser named Raiden for 90% of the experience. Kinda like how Resident Evil 2 gave me some loser named Leon as opposed to my childhood sweetheart, Ms. Valentine. What a jip!

 

Yes, important things like journalists trading good reviews for favors...

Not that popular gaming media has been any good historically, anyway.

 

The thing is game reviews are more relevant than ever, maybe not to us but the reality is that companies can kill a sequel over a sub-80 metacritic score, and if enough journos crap over a beta a game itself might get canned and never released.

A corrupt media is a media that will shit all over a game based solely on "we didn't get paid this time so fuck their game", but in many cases will completely ignore most games while pumping as much hype over the game they did get paid to talk about.

 

The Kane and Lynch story (twice now I've typed the game as Kane and Lunch) was quashed for years, there was an NDA about it so Gerstmann couldn't discuss it for almost 5 years.

 

He couldn't talk about it, but the rest of the industry did and a lot.

This time is different, a kotaku intern says he almost got fired for even suggesting they should cover the story

Awesome post Shadowlayer. I was just getting caught up with how big this story is last night. Its moved way beyond one guy who happened to work at Kotaku which is what the gaming media wants us to believe.

The Phil Fish hacking event that occurred is even tied into it now.

1. Phil Fish's site is hacked and a 1.6 gb file of his information is leaked. Phil cries about it and then says hes quitting gaming (again) and selling his company.
2. After members of /v/ researched the 1.6gb file, they find in the metadata that someone created that file and uploaded it to the website. The information wasn't just found on the website and some hacker put it all together. Someone on Phil's end purposefully created the file, uploaded it to the Polytron website and then someone downloaded it to make it look like it was hacked.
3. In other words, Phil's site was never hacked. He was trying to build sympathy for Zoe who he defended by showing how awful these Zoe haters are that they hacked his website.

Zoe, Phil Fish and Adam Sessler (?!) were even staging an event of watching the sites get hacked as it was happening in real time, which was never occurring.

I think the thread title is now pretty accurate.

 

Sequel to the video posted earlier in this thread. Very interesting conversation between David Jaffe (Creator of Twisted Metal and God of War) and Stephen Totilo (editor in chief at Kotaku) at 11:40 regarding a Kotaku click bait article written about an interview Jaffe gave when promoting Twisted Metal PS3. I guess it's been floating around the internet for a while but this is the first I've heard of it. If you can't or don't want to watch the video, here's some of the parts of that conversation:

Jaffe: "... But nowhere in that sense do I say "the only way you're gonna get sex, is underhanded trickery". That is your own reporter bringing her own fucking agenda to the table. And you fucking know it."

Totilo: "She's not a bad hire. She's an excellent hire. And not every story is gonna make people happy. Some stories--"

Jaffe: "Give me a break. If you said Twisted Metal is shit, it's not relevant, it doesn't play well; that won't make me happy but eh, it's your opinion. To not only call someone something awful like a misogynist or to imply that they're misogynists very clearly, but to get the definition of misogyny wrong, and then on top of it to basically get you're facts wrong --where in there did I say "the only way to get sex from a woman is to be underhanded and manipulate her"? When did I say that? Never."

Totilo: "She's talking about the tone of the interview and what you're saying in the act of promoting a game. Where do you want this to go?"

Jaffe: "--I'm happy to be done. I'm happy to be done with you, I'm happy to be done with your site. It's bullshit, it's bush league, and you should be ashamed of yourself. Even vets in the industry are sick of this shit.

I'm just puzzled about one thing - if this had been a man who slept with 5 women there wouldn't be a story... or, at the very least, nobody would really care.

 

You say that as if women & men are even equal on paper, let alone in everyone's warped minds.

 

Riiiiiiight, because the problem isn't that it has been made abundantly clear that there is a clique in the indie gaming community which trades favors for other favors and utterly destroys the work and careers of those who don't comply. Not at all, our problem is that some chick who used to do alt.porn slept with 5 dudes, yeah I could not live knowing someone on earth was having sex outside of marriage, because we live in the fucking 1950s
