I hate to be the noob here but I do repair arcades and mod other systems. I just picked up a dreamcast kiosk and I want to mod one of my extra dreamcasts with the hdd. That being said, doing the soldering is no problem BUT I'm not completely sure how to load the new bios. Is there a walkthrough on here for the bios load? Ive already downloaded. 4.0.0 rc3. I've got my ribbon cable soldered in for the first attempt but I'm not sure how to do the bios mod. I appreciate any help.

Boot into dreamshell on the standard bios, load the bios flasher utility, flip the switch to change bios and write the bios to it. You need a piggybacked second bios chip of course.

So that is where i solder the second chip to the top of the first one with the extra wires and switch? Where is the best place to order one in the states? Also thank you for the reply!

    lol

I did, but only after I received an auto reply from the guy after I paid. SOOO I bought one from Helder on here. I'm about to head to Radioshak to try to buy the resistors I need. I pick up the kiosk saturday. I'm thinking about buying a vga port and swapping out the tube tv that comes with it for a computer monitor. I've got everything sitting at my soldering station, just need my parts to come in. Thinking about going all out and doing the overclock mod as well. This is a sweet site btw, I'm glad google stumbled me onto it.

Would you be able to fit a 4.3 LCD screen in that case? I think that would be awesome to see as well. Aren't kiosk screens like 13 inches or something?

I was probably just going to stick a sony trinitron monitor in there if I find a nice one on craigslist. As an arcade guy I prefer tubes for the older systems.

    Hi dudes,

I'm noob in this area, and I have some questions:

    1) Is it necessary to apply the piggyback method?
    2) Could it not be possible to separate the bios file from the dreamshell, like the free bios file, in order to replace completely the stock bios??

Thank you very much in advance

    Un saludo
