What the hell are they thinking??!? Halo + Rise of the Robots = Newskool Bomberman?

And calling it "Act:Zero" is a further double-insult to the intelligence because 1) They're copying the very modern but awfully cliche'd "Zero" method of continuing franchises; and 2) This being zero implies that they were hardcore and manly first, then later evolved into the cuteness of yesteryear. Cynical. Bullshit.

I agree with all you dissenters above.

I saw this and thought... WHAT THE FUCK?

But really, that "redesigned, technoish, renewed" bomberman... wasn't that called Silent Bomber, and released in 1998?

Not the same company, I know, but that "let's take bomberman and make him a newish property" was done like 8 years ago.

Not that Silent Bomber wasn't awesome ... because it was.

I personally am very unhappy with the change, I just hope they continue the "cutesy" design in other games as well. Blowing up your cartoon buddies is different from exploding realistic-ish humanoids. Will we get gore and gibs in this one? This stylistic change really alters the mind set of the game. I'll still give it a shot, but I'm skeptical. I'd much rather see just a giant compliation of EVERY Bomberman game with online play across XboxLive for Saturn Bomberman and Bomberman Online, or a new classic style Bomberman that has every gametype used in a Bomberman availble. Hell, even a new one in the vein of Bomberman 64 would be better than this.

Regardless of what they call it, this isnt bomberman

It would be like replacing Mario with Lara Croft in a techo suit with Tron like graphics.. people would not accept it as Mario regardless of what they called it.

They should of given this a new name and maybe tried to start a new franchise instead of milking an old one and totally destroying it (part of the bomberman magic was the art!)

I wanted online Bomberman on the 360, but not like this, not like this.

Actually guys and gals, after reading the story of the game on Magic Box, this seems to be a remake of the original 1988 bomberman. If thats true, this new character resembles (in sorts) the original picture Hudson made for bomberman (more menacing, less cute)

    not the same huh

On the grounds that box has "Classic New Series" printed on the top, I call awful on it too. XerdoPwerko commented about Silent Bomber and though I'd forgotten it, that'd be the perfect series to be made into a style like this, that game totally blew me away (no puns of course) and may actaully have suited a style like this, does the company that made Silent Bomber even exist anymore? Hudson should have attempted to get their hands on that series maybe.

Though, I'm up in the air about the new bomberman, I'd probably prefer this then Bomberman hero 2, not that I've heard anything but that game was pretty torturous, no multi in bomberman hero? what was the damn point.

3d gets in the way with gameplay in bomberman, it's a 2d game based on a grid.

I suppose the "harder" style is to attract westerners as it's on 360, so clearly not
    for a Japanese audience.

    How sad.

I had thought about that, but during the main game you still fought ballons, water, and coin shaped enemies. It's seems like a stretch to me. Well... we'll see.

I'll take Bomberman Online on Dreamcast over this title anyday.

Bomberman looks like he just came out of a German fetish party.

    What a waste of resources...

About sonic, weel he always was the cooler mascot, so when it got redesigned in the 98 with Sonic Adventure it was kinda good becos it gave back the agressive appeal it had back when it was first released. Plus the "americanised" version os sonic was kinda lame (and fat) while if you look at the original sketchs or even better, the SonicCD desing, you see there was something wrong in the head of those SOA execs.

The 3D bomberman formula was tested on the N64 and it sucked badly, I dont know why Hudson wants to push his luck again...

I think the new design is alright. I mean, its different, and they're maintaining the classic Bomberman gameplay (I assume from the pictures) instead of doing a 3D action adventure abomination (sorry if you liked that one N64 Bomberman!).

It could be fun. "First Person Bomber" mode looks like it could be interesting. Hopefully this sees a US release... or at least has no region lockout.

Indeed. I seriously doubt anything will ever come close to its greatness (at least in the realm of Bomberman).

Actually, if Im not mistaken, there are 3 action adeventure bombermans on the N64. I have owned 2 of them in the past and while Bomberman hero was kind of boring, Bomberman 64 was fun to me at the time. I cant remember the name of the 3rd one but I think its called Bomberman attack or something. I wanted to get that one but never got it.

I cant help thinking that Im forgetting another 1 or 2 action Bomberman titles on the N64...

I am unsure on the 3rd one (maybe jpn release only?) but that style continued into 2 more 3d bomberman games for the gamecube (they all sucked still).

Also speaking of saturn bomberman, I am not sure but I kind of liked bomberman online (Dreamcast) a little bit more. :)
