Has anyone ever seen bootleg PS2 discs that have almost the same artwork as the official copies, but erroneous elements like an RP rating instead of the correct one? About 2 months ago, someone on another forum brought up the subject about a PS2 disc he saw at a flea market, in the US. He didn't take any pictures, but described it as above. Most likely this guy isn't describing it 100% to his memory as he probably doesn't remember every little detail exactly, just going by what he loosely recalls. On one hand, people suggested it could be a bootleg; on the other, some are saying it could be a review disc. This has reminded me of an earlier thread here, where someone brought up a bootleg copy of True Crime. It also features an RP rating, except the disk's artwork is totally something else. Thread here: http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/is-this-a-bootleg-or-something-else.47368/ Picture of the disc here: http://imgur.com/a/H3lBb Has anyone ever seen any other bootleg PS2 discs with this design style (US version artwork, but one or more elements like the rating not the same)?
I remember coming across bootleg xbox games, they often have holographic covers for some reason like most other dodgy Chinese products Can't remember if the ratings where all ballsed up however
I have a few bootleg PS1 games with full on disc graphics. There was a little shop down the street from my house that sold them for $15 a piece back in the day. I think the guy eventually got caught by the FBI or something because one day the shop was closed and empty. I have a Thrill Kill with full on graphics. Then some of the bootlegs were really crappy like this Fighting Force 2
The labels on bootlegs can be pretty much anything at all. The people making them just grabbed the first artwork they could find and used it - in that case, it sounds like it was a pre-release label mockup that had been made before the game was released.
Some years ago I had a lot of bootleg PS1 and PS2 games since I didn't buy original games here in Brazil. When the 360 launched I started to buy only original games and I threw away almost every bootleg that I had. The majority of those games had disc labels identical to the original games but there was also some that didn't have it. It would deppend from where I bought them. Some places would sell games that had nice labels and cases and some would sell them in plastic sleeves. But almost every place would charge the same amount.
Most of these posted have some really off artwork, but they're still fascinating. I've seen quite a bit of the PS1 bootleg scene, it just seems like there's little elsewhere online about PS2 bootleg discs, especially images. Most I've seen are PAL bootlegs at that. So perhaps Brazil is one of the possible origins of the disc I described, assuming it is in fact a bootleg. The artwork being anything, including very official-looking, doesn't really help things.
Back in the mid 90s I had about 100 Saturn bootlegs from China. Binned them all now because I have the original discs.
probably the Chinese pirate team's logo or something.. The Fighting Force 2 had a little corn husk on it..
There was actual Sega Saturn bootlegs back in the day?! I've never knew bootleggers had an interest on the system as it was always PlayStation that had a more recognition when it came to certain people owning them before.
Yup! Thanks again for the great service If you have any more bootlegs please let me know, if not it's cool
That's how blind people were to the Saturn back in the day. There was a pirate version of very game made for the system. Well over a thousand titles. They were just the same as the PlayStation ones in terms of quality. You know, I may have one or two left. Let me have a dig around and check.
Couldn't agree more and it's a bit disappointing that none of the bootlegs never came across the west or the states in this case. btw, what's the pirated game for the system is if you can remember?
None of mine worked in a stock console. The little shop down the street from my house used to sell their modchip service in order for the games to work. It was the coolest thing I ever saw as a kid because all It was to me was "$15 games!!" I had no idea how illegal that place was at the time. The guy had glass display cases full of blatantly pirated games.. I think he got jailed
I used to buy mine from a Chinese guy back in the UK and a few Chinese import Web sites. I had all the big names as a copy and many shooters. Now I own 99% of the Japanese released games on original disc so have no use for the back ups.
