Only one I remember is DOA:XBV but had the nude hack. I've never seen that again, but had the same type of cover you mentioned.
Nice! If you could remember back um how did the backups play? Were they full version via no rips/ missing tracks, etc or did it had trainers/scene intros like the SNES & GBA ones?
All Saturn backs ups were full games. They didn't need to remove anything since they were normal CDs. Playing Saturn back ups worked 100% of the time using the swap disc method. No need for mod chips. Also, many say the swap disc method damages the Saturn. That's pure bull shit. I've got a Saturn right here that spent 10 years of its life doing disc swaps. Still running strong even now.
Heheh lol, now about swap disc methods.. could the same work without the need for a action replay 4M cart when trying to run legit Japanese imports on an American saturn? Or does it fully require it at all times? Cuz i might make a couple of Saturn games for my little cousin who has a Sega Saturn himself that his dad gave to him.
I have one Saturn pressed bootleg. I have a cousin that lives in HK who used to have a lot of Saturn bootlegs. I remember in the late '90s playing Xmen vs SF and his console wouldn't read the disc anymore. I liked playing it so much that he went and bought another bootleg copy the next day. It was packaged in a plastic cd bag with a photocopy of the cover art, just like bootleg HK vcd movies.
Good question. I think it does work but it's been 18 years since I owned a none Japanese Saturn game. Back in the UK I had a few official PAL discs that I used to play on my Saturn such as Croc and Sega Touring Cars. I'm sure I just did the disc swap to play them. Hmm........ Oh, just a moment, I may have a US copy of Sega Rally her in Japan. I can dig that out and check if it boots on my Japanese Saturn using the disc swap if you'd like. That's right. That's how most of mine came.
During the PS2 era I got a lot of bootlegs that had a bunch of rubbish placeholder text on the back, sometimes it might be about the actual game and other times about something totally different. Like some of the bootleg DVD covers you see people laughing about often the text would be a review of the game that was talking about how shitty it was. Almost all of the silvers I have alter the original covers so you never see it actually say Sony, Sega, Playstation, etc or have UPC's or company logos. The PS2 was often called "Game Station 2" I was surprised at the picture on the previous page that had covers that almost looked normal since none I own could even be remotely mistaken for an original game.
No, on the Saturn the disc authentication and the region check are distinct, and the swap trick just lets you bypass the first one, so if you are trying to boot a wrong-region original it will do nothing for you, since the authentication check would have passed anyway. What you can do is rip the disc, region patch it to match the console, then boot that copy using the swap trick.
Ah okay, yeah that actually makes perfect sense to be quite honest sorry for the dumb question. I'd just want to be clarify of that first making sure if it were right or wrong. Thank You!
