At least the US-version's artwork looks rather nice with the black/white-contrast. Here's the great German version: The cover art is just the same as Killzone 2's, only with a white frame around that butt-ugly helghast douchebag. It's not that bad though. Most gamers I know have grown a custom to importing the PEGI-rated version from one of those many cheap UK shops.
Here's the japanese cover i mentioned: And here's a custom cover i found (don't know who did it), using japanese art with some changes: What a difference. Way better than the US and Euro ones.
That Killzone cover is a good example of how easy it is to make a PS3 cover look like crap by covering it in logos since there's less space. I actually kinda like the artwork for those games, at least the arcade ports that usually got some new, original artwork for the cover. Here's a good place to start: http://www.coverbrowser.com/covers/c64-games (I'm sure a lot of them are Box Arts of Horror)
Why haven't you ever Remixed music and submitted it to something like Dwelling of Duels (if you can play an instrument live)or OCRemix then? I do it, here's a remix of Stage 3 of Gaiares I just finished for Dwelling of Duels a few days ago http://dwellingofduels.net/dodarchive/11-02-Level_3_Month/04-BONKERS-Gaiares-Shoot-DoD.mp3 And I use an unbelievable amount of Midi all the time. When I have the time I normally write sheet music/sequence Midi first for a song. I think we'd all be surprised that a lot of Professional music has Instruments/lines of music that are played by Midi. And even how realistic it can all sound. I bet you'd be hard pressed to tell what is Midi and what isn't Midi in the song above. Also, I can't download any of those midi's to listen to because links are down
I have uploaded a mix to OCRemix over 5 years back. I haven't done any music in a long time now. As for the links, they're well dead. The original post was from a few years back. I may still have them on a HD somewhere though.
Oh yeah? What game was it from, they most likely still have it on the site, i'd love to hear it. And silly me, I didn't even realize that post was ages old! D: lol
I'm pretty sure it was the main theme from Midnight Resistance. I'm also pretty sure they removed it or moved it because it was more of an arrangement than a mix.
If they did remove it that's stupid. OCR does tend to get on the liberal side a lot especially in the past, but they are really inconsistent with what they keep saying is acceptable. Telling people to be more creative because it's too faithful and then ending ruining a good song and other songs ending up crap. Personally, I believe a middle ground has to be set between giving it our individual flavor and maintaining the integrity of the original Melody and structure. To me, If the average fan of the game can't recognize the song within the first 30 seconds or the melody is twisted so much it's un recognizable as the song then an arrangement is too liberal. But that's just me, and I know who my audience is.
Every time I look at this image it gets worse. The style is disgusting, the proportions are shot to hell... just awful. I can't look at this without laughing. I have no idea what they thought they were conveying with this cover. Sadly it's a pretty average horizontal shooter.
The guy who made the European box for Mega Man 2 got a new job in the 16-bit age. "Robocop™ and Terminator™" really puzzles me...does it mean they had to pay to use the names on the cover, and if so, what's the point?
The Turrican artwork is made by Julie Bell and not Boris Vallejo as the text on the gamebox say. http://www.imaginistix.com/details.cfm?Id=221
Monty on the run this time instead of a Japanese game getting a naff western localization its the other way round. c64 version famicom disk system
Could've been a great cover idea if they didn't add the stupid weapons. If this game would have come out in Japan, I'm 100% certain there'd be no weapons and only the spider.
