Crack Down I love the countdown on the side. Notice how the title is CRACK down, not COUNT down. Compared to this Hokuto no Ken looking Japanese cover:
Normally the "shining series" artwork is decent but this is ridiculous. And also, I might add, bad American artwork on games has scared me away from many a gem. :angry
Ported to the sweeet sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet Lynx! I never pass up an opportunity to toot my horn in favor of Lynx.
Yes, it isn't that bad, but the SMT: Nocture box is pretty...Plain. Picture of the main character's face in red, some blood, and the logo. Personally think they should of went with the back for the front and the front for the back. Edit: Was curious about the Japanese boxart, so here is the two versions of the Japanese version: It's the same, but in blue/grey and the logo is in Japanese and in the middle. Personally think the blue version is much better (Looks more in-depth due to the shading), while the grey version also looks somewhat better. Still think the back of the box is better, though.
The Japanese Sonic 2 box is like a hideous explosion of early 90s-ness: Sorry about the humoungous picture, but it's the only one I could find where you can just about make out the random Engrish: Err, yeah...
No! You insulted Japanese box art! I would put on a flame retardant suit and beg for mercy if I were you. :smt014
OK, it's not that bad - damn sight better than the other Sonic 2 box art, but by today's standard it's cheese on a stick, and the random paragraph stuck in there just boggles the mind.
Bad mouthing a japanese box cover :angry may God strike you down witha bolt of lightning ! :death Yakumo PS: Only joking :happyhap:
Alf for Master System : http://www.emucamp.com/media/boxes/sms/alf.jpg Bill & Ted adventures for Atari Lynx :
Now we need to find some bad Japanese Boxart besides Sonic 2, Androgynous, and Cho Aniki... Even though it's a good game, Fantasy Zone boxart looks pretty bad regardless of platform and reigion: For PS2: For Famicom: For NES: Master System: I'll have to scan the TG-16 one at some time, which bizzarely looks decent by Fantasy Zone and Turbografx standards, despite the overwhelming presence of pastel pink.
Thanks for reminding me with that last picture - why are all early Western SMS boxes boring as HELL?!? They're all mostly white with squares like that, then some crappy little picture on the front... it's like minimalism gone wrong, or something. And also, on the subject of Sega doing things WRONG - Puyo Puyo Fever: My eyes! :smt022
Pffft, the last 8 boxarts are hardly awful. Sub-par maybe, but far from those that make you pull out your eyes in disgust. However, here's a good good example of the latter, the PAL cover for Robotron X:
Retro Core Volume : 4 is now available. Yet another improvement over the previous Retro Core shows with the high resolution version being almost 100 Meg smaller in size than volume : 3. Featured in Volume : 4 is an interview with a Japanese Retro Game store owner and well as a quick look around his shop. Of course there's loads of gaming goodies too, including a Final Fight special ! Just which home version of Final Fight is truly the best? Plus PC Engine Power Drift, Master System Phantasy Star, SFC Super Aleste, Saturn Sega Touring Cars, Dreamcast Rent-a-Hero, Neo Geo Metal Slug and Game Boy Turtles fall of the Foot Clan !! Enjoy.
