Bungie are a one trick pony, it's not really big news. Weird news, but nothing major without Halo.

They didn't seem to mind when Rare made Diddy Kong Racing DS. Or when they decided to put Viva Pinata on the DS. Or when Mistwalker decided to put Blue Dragon on the DS. Or when Mech Assault wound up on the DS.

Microsoft has no problems with their stuff on the DS as far as I can tell.

But Rare and Mistwalker were one night stands.

Bungie was a commited meaningful relationship

Ironically, Rare has made more games on Microsoft consoles than Bungie has.

If Bungie becomes independent, what does that exactly mean?

    Mutliplatform titles? PC only games?

Doesn't seem like they really will be doing anything multi platform for a while at least.

The interview from kokatu just seems to state that

    Really they're simply independant...

Microsoft though does have the right to make additional Halo titles.
And they will stick to be a Xbox developer only for the time being.

Maybe Bungie will go back to writing Apple Mac games and sell games in the tens of thousands like the good old days. ;P

so they're independent, but will still focus almost exclusively on the 360. Wow, big change there.

So, what's with MS dumping all their developers? They dump bizarre creations (developer of a racing game), then let bungie walk out( best selling game ever). They also shut down their sports developers (US loves football and shitty games like madden) when they were making the xbox.

I think they were just using them to build up their image. Now that they are doing well, they don't need them anymore.

Not to say there just not valuable to the company, there just not a necessity for them anymore. Sorta how nintendo let go of rare once they had more 3rd party support on gc.

Microsoft had to shut down their sports division in order to get EA to sign up to the XBOX. (and more specifically to port their EA sports games to the XBOX)

It was still shitty, no doubt about that. But they did have a lot more sign up then when they had 64. I still wonder what perfect dark what of been like if it was done on cube instead.

I'd rather play Perfect Dark on a N64 controller rather than on the GC controller.
