If Windows 8 has XP mode, then it would likely work, but I dont use Windows 8. I would stick to a VM that you know works, and not worry too much about it.

 

OK thanks. I have the ethernet cable in the back of the xbox and Neighborhood is asking me to enter the IP address, but it is saying that it could not be found.
The xbox has got an IP and my pc is also connected to the same router. Will I have to do anything in my router settings?
The xp vm is setup to use the hosts network and it has got network access because webpages load in the browser.

 

I have managed to get the console connected an setup just going to try and copy stuff now.
