Can an FDS be modded to take standard (5-1/4, 3-1/2) floppies?

Does it still boot? I used to have a box full of those Bung disks (mostly trained versions of cartridge games) and they seemed to suffer from terrible bitrot - much worse than the original Nintendo FDS games. I guess the media just wasn't as good.

Thinking about it, there was another Famicom era Bung product that had a disk copier function - I think the English name was "Game Master" - but that was nice because the disk copy code was actually built into the ROM menu, so you didn't have to worry about losing (or breaking) the boot disk.

 

It does still boot, it works in conjunction with the Game Doctor by Venus.

 

Have you got the hardware to run it on? I would guess it would probably work on the Bung GD1M and GD2M as well - the Venus was basically a GD1M clone, but with more memory (2Mbits) - I have a vague memory that the paging wasn't 100% compatible with the GD2M, though, so I guess Venus designed it before the 2M came out.

I doubt the paging will cause any problems, though - you can easily fit a disk side in the basic 128KB / 1Mb RAM.

 

I do have the hardware as well. I did a video on it a while back, but it was a bad video

 

If I could find a rom of this (as long as its not double sided in one) I believe I could find a a broken disc on ebay to burn a copy when I can find the time.
