Or maybe Nintendo offer this cart technology to publishers and Capcom bought into it. Who knows. If you don't like it, don't buy the game. That is the only way you can prevent this kind of thing.
Isnt it hilarious that game companies loose more money from resale by their loyal customers than from all those pirates who wont pay for shit? Not that they didn't bring this to themselves: if games today weren't a big cutscene with little replay value maybe most gamers would keep their copies to play them latter. Seriously, how bad most games must be today thats its almost customary to buy a game at launch, beat it in a day or two then sell it on ebay even though by doing so the gamer is losing 50% or more of the money they spent on it. How bad games must be that each day more and more gamers are willing to get back a few bucks rather than keep the damn game. Seriously, I think I haven't replayed a non-classic game from zero to finish since GTAVC.
This isn't really surprising. Anyone remember Capcom's 90's arcade boards with the "suicide" batteries? Not quite the same thing, I know, but they have never liked secondhand sales.
In the end, all the fuss was pretty irrelevant, since nobody would want to play this game more than once anyway.
Actually, I've been having a fair amount of fun in online co-op. Though it certainly isn't worth full retail price.
 This is bullshit though, I guess I wont be /buying/ another CAPCOM published game. It's ashame though, considering that was on my to buy list when I buy a 3DS later this year.
Looks like I'm not playing any Capcom 3Ds games then. 99% of what I buy is used, the last new game I bought was like 5 years ago (command & conquer 3, I think.) Stuff like this makes me not care about piracy.
So... apparently Capcom's only real crime here (aside from charging $40 for what is essentially the "bonus" content of their previous two RE titles) is that they mentioned this in the booklet. Apparently BlazBlue, Super Monkey Ball 3D, PilotWings Resort, and PES are all lacking in the ability to delete the original save file. Only difference is... those games don't mention it in the manual in giant bold letters. Of course, at the end of the day it doesn't really matter in this instance. You can still play every single mission in the game, you just have eternally saved high scores, unlocked costumes/characters, unlocked skills, and unlocked achievements. And given that the game will be in a bargain bin for $10 new at Gamestop by Christmas anyways...
Thanks for the heads up on Blaz Blue, used copies are starting to get out there and I was tempted. Its a good series and part of the fun of arksys games is going through the story mode and unlocking stuff.
Pretty sure it's because God started the topic Just kidding, ASSEMbler started the topic saying it, he's pretty reputable, so most people just assume anything he says is legit. Evidently him and his friends think I suck at L4D2, and they don't want to play with me now
It doesn't hurt just resale what if you in a few years want to start the game from the begining... well Capcom says NO SOUP FOR YOU. same with any of the other DS games.... well another strike against the 3DS I was strongly considering getting one.
I'll say it again, if you are one to buy games used you're as detrimental as a pirate to a game publisher/developer. Knowing that your second hand habit is going to add no money to their pockets, you wonder why you should be putting money out of yours, hence you end up pirating and the results are the same for the most part. Win-win the end. [ I m not advocating piracy, just highlighting some facts. Many will have you believe that pirated software is lost profits, which it isn't and I take issue with companies trying to play the ethics/legal card when there is no substantially different result either way. ] Personally I buy my PS3 and 360 games used. Hacking the damn things isn't worth it to me. More specifically regarding Capcom's decision, I'm ok that they did it. This way second hand copies will go for even less and they'll probably get their lesson.
It puts money in to the pockets of new-game buyers, who would otherwise not have as much funds to buy new games. Sorry -- but the 2nd hand game market is necessary, and probably the reason why the games industry has as much money in it as it does. Not sure if that makes the industry better (probably not) but it's a valid argument.
Capcom: Hey let's experiment our marketing / R&D on 3DS. Capcom: Preventing our software to be running on another 3DS seems a pretty solid idea, let's try it on other 3DS games as well. - No one buys their games since every logical person boycotts it. Capcom: Oh crap, our sales on 3DS sucked. Let's bash Nintendo and move on PSP. At least we know what we're going.
Right, even though that is totally not what happened in this instance. And those of you talking about wanting to "start the game over" have obviously not played it. There's no way in hell I would ever want to go back to having no Skills unlocked. Though chances are I'll never turn the game on again because I've now seen everything there was to see. If people need to be pissed off at a game developer, they should be pissed off that Capcom basically hacked together a port of the Mercenaries modes from RE4 and RE5, included 9 levels from those games, included 8 characters from those games, added a somewhat deep skill system, and called that a full retail game. That's what should be pissing people off.
"Suicide" batteries? What would happen, after so much time gone by it would forget the bios(s)? =Hugh
Christian Svensen made an anouncement on their latest Ask Capcom feed that Capcom are aware of the dissapointment with this "feature" and that we wouldn't be seeing things happen like that again.
