I have no doubts that Christ was a nice fellow, but the Church has over the past 1.800 years made the whole thing into a hollywood blockbuster and a thriving business!
Too old for Christmas, bah humbug... We made sure our son had a good one tho. We did the trick that Macwest suggested a while back i.e. got him to open all the 'small' presents first then slipped in the 'biggie' right at the end...it worked a treat and 'yes' I'm having fun boxing and cow jumping on, my, ooops! I mean his new Wii!!! lol
I bought myself a 360 3 days before xmas, then got to see my mom and gave all the family an Xbox with like 10 games for xmas. Got some clothes and stuff like that, then had to go to work....bleh. I don't think I would even mess with xmas if I didn't have a family or something.
since someone else brought it up...the roman catholics started the christmas tradition...christ mass or mass of christ literally translates into christs death sacrifice. somewhere along the way it went from an observance of christs death to a celebration of christs birth...to what we know today. some people take offense to 'merry christmas,' because they way they see it...you are mocking jesus's death. ...anyways...
Yes, it was celebrated as christ death origionally. However, there was an old Jewish beleif that said prophets died on the same day of the year they were born. Also, Easter used to be the big catholic holiday, with christmas being of significantly lesser importance, but when England broke away from the vatican they decided to differenciate themselves by making christmas a major event. Ironically, when the US broke away from Britian christmas was no longer considered an important day, and not widely celebrated so we could could get rid of the English tradition. Anyway, on christmas eve I was in walmart buying a 360 for my brother, and they had several PS3's in stock. Needless to say, I finally have a PS3. Other than that, I hate recieve gifts and am not disappointed on that front
