What's the status on how close we are to $100?

 

While as im not doing too well on funds latly myself (well, I do have $, but im trying to keep expenses to a minimum so that I don't end up broke durring my vacation), I voted for "Yes you idiot! Here is my $$$!". I don't want to loose an opportunity to get an unreleased game dumped. Anyhow though, I sent a little bit ($15). Its not much, but hopefully it helps.

Benedict Arnold - I would consider releasing it to the donors and the donors only, but in the grand scheme of things that would still potentially leave a lot of people interested in playing it with no money (who are not freeloaders, just skint/missed the chance to be in the 1st 10 busy washing dishes/masturbating/whatever etc) from playing the game. Worst case scenario maybe donors get a few months head start instead of a few weeks, I'd still like for the release to be limited to ASSEMbler members only, but even with a closed release widespread P2P coverage is eventually inevitable

Rightyho, Well I've got my copy, and burnt it, And Its actually not that shit!

The graphics are pretty nice for the PS1 (As I expect other donators will agree), and it plays pretty well.

I've only used an emulator so far, because I don't have a Chipped PS, and it works fine in ePSXe.
I'll post a few screenshots once I play through it a bit more thoroughly (i.e. not 2am), so long as thats OK With legit.

Alright, time for some initial impression (im keeping it brief though sense I wana go back to playing the game).

First off it should be know that this game is very early in development, and has no cinematics, music, and is far from playable start to finish. The first thing that shows up after the game loads is a debug menu, which you can see here:



Through it you can go to level 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, and 12. So I guess levels 3 and 9 were too incomplete to include in the build, or hadn't been started yet. Each level then has a sub-level which can be selected, but be warned, some are very incomplete and will have areas that make you fall into nothingness (although you don't need to reset, you can simply press start to open a mini-debug menu and teleport to another stage).

One aspect that I did find nice was that the game could be changed to any psx supported resolution. Although im not sure how good the feature works (seeing as I was playing on ePSXe).

The games bosses thus far have been odd to say the least. One of them for example decided that he was too powerful to fight the main character and thus decided that they should have a rock-paper-scissors battle instead (which, by the way, is very annoying). Now how the heck did you get it to look good on ePSXe? I just tried it and the screen looks wide and when I start the game the guy runs in a circle.


EDIT- I put it in my fake modded Blue DTL-H1001 to play it on a TV. I had to put an analog joystick in the machine for it not to run in circles. Nice game indeed. Early on in the development, but still nice. Since Point Of View developed it, I wonder if my friend at Midway would even have a more complete beta of it laying around. (probably not)

 

I think I may have to make a front and back cover for this one!

 

Ahh if you're playing with (or emulating) an original PSX controller it will run in circles (oddly). For some reason you need to play with a Dual Shock controller with the sticks enabled for it to work.

 

BTW, do you think this will lead others to release betas too? I'm still waiting for Madden 96 and others! (I only have one beta which I can't release yet. I hope to have another soon.)

 

hehe I still didn't get my $100 yet though and I don't own Madden 96, but if I get the $100 and Deuce doesn't end up on P2P networks any time soon I'll be tempted to let some others (which are not for Dreamcast) creep their way onto here too

 

w00t! I mainly want PS1, but I just got Propeller Arena and Flintstones today for DC.
