I was pretty disappointed with W101, ironically the gamepad seems to hinder it since some of the patterns are a pain in the ass to draw (notably the bomb and the hammer, using the right analog helps but not much) and the sections where you look at the gamepad are awful. This whole Platinum thing is pretty baffling, no idea why Nintendo wanted so badly to have the sequel to Bayonetta, a franchise nobody really cares about, on Wii U.
People care about Bayonetta, they just don't want it on the WII U everyone and their mother is demanding it get ported to another system and Sega the IP owner may be happy to oblige.
Nintendo needs to listen to what fans want plan and simple. I LOVE the Hyrule warriors idea and I'd love to see more 3rd parties do stuff with Nintendo IPs but I'd also like to see Indie devs take on dream projects for Nintendo. I'd also like to see less Mario and more Kirby and as I keep saying another F-Zero. I have been considering getting a cheap standard Wii for a few games, Madworld, No More Heroes 2, Sonic Colors, Punch Out, Excite Trunk, Shikigami No shiro 3 and the ultimate shooting collection but for the most part I have no real interest in Nintendo. And We've seen how psychotically frank I've been about my feelings for Nintendo as a company so no need to repeat that.
Regarding Bayonetta 2 on other consoles: As far as I know, that simply cannot happen. Exclusivity contract, and what not. Maybe in the future when said contract expires (if it does)? Also, I need to point out how absolutely pissed I am at their newest Nintendo Direct: GBA VC for the Wii U. Only. Only the Wii U. Not the damn 3DS. Like, uh, excuse me? Not only is it only for the Wii U, but the first games coming to it are the ones people got in the Ambassador program. Wow! They're games that are already running perfectly on the 3DS, but yet, they will remain exclusive to Wii U owners and those who bought a system two damn years ago. It's been a long while since the price dropped, so why not just release them on the eShop as well? Why not officially make GBA VC a thing on the 3DS, too? Portable games for a portable system is the most obvious thing in the entire damn world, but yet, clueless Nintendo will always be clueless, I guess. Not only that, but I am an ambassador. I am an ambassador that lost his old 3DS a long time ago, and as a result, the ambassador games. I literally had no way to preserve them at the time, since Nintendo is too fucking incompetent to create a proper online system. Like, isn't only recently that they finally allowed people to connect their eShop purchases to an account of some kind? ONLY RECENTLY? Gee! If only I had that damn luxury then!
I love my Wii U and I loved my Wii as well, I enjoyed it far much more than my PS3 overall, but the Wii U is seriously lacking in games. This is the same problem Nintendo has been having since the N64 days. Third parties are just never as interested in Nintendo consoles as others
I am somewhat sorta interested in the Wii U. It already has some games that look pretty promising, whereas the PS4 and Xbox One don't really have anything that interests me currently. I think once the new Super Smash Bros. game comes out, I'll probably get one. I really think that game alone will have a huge impact on sales for the console. I just wish they hadn't waited so long. About the 3DS eShop: I was in the Ambassador program, before I sold my 3DS. I bought a 3DS on launch day. One thing I always wondered about was: why not release Virtual Boy games on the eShop? They would be perfect for the 3DS, and prior to the 3DS it would've been impossible. I understand that the Virtual Boy was a commercial failure, but I know there are quite a few fans of the system, and wouldn't it be cool to get to play those games on a glasses-less 3D display?
I am more interested in the Wii U than the PS4 and XBOne. But I'm currently a PC Gamer with an OK PC, and worse, things like Steam Sales and Humble Bundles aren't really making my funds any better. So I doubt I could buy a Wii-U. As for Bayonetta 2..... The real story is that Platinum said "I wanna make Bayonetta 2, wanna help us publish/fund it? Sega said "No". Nintendo basically said "We'll fund it. Deal?" while Platinum Games said "Cool". That's it.
Well for me I want one, have not went out to buy one yet but will eventually, for me every console is a casual device. I have no interest in xbox one or ps4, but the wii u does interest me. I do think the wii U is Nintendo's Dreamcast, a coming together of all kinds of stupid, crazy, nonsense ideas and decisions crippling and restricting a platform with a lot of potential. however I don't think Nintendo will go the same rout as SEGA as they are still very strong in the handheld market. Either way I'm a gamer I'll game on whatever the games I like show up on, PC gaming mainly with consoles as casual and optional extras no interest whatsoever in tablets or "mobile gaming"(not including handhelds in that such as psp/vita/ds/3ds)
Bayonetta 2 will not come to another console as Nintendo is publishing it. Well, I guess they could pull Tecmo's bullshit and make a Bayonneta 2 Sigma Gaiden Hyper Shoruken or some such nonsense. But I doubt it.
Thing is with Nintendo they work very well with themselves but not with anyone else really. I doubt many 3rd parties will jump on board in the future with Nintendo.
The Wii U does have a couple downsides (just the name alone.. someone made a point that it would of been much better off in many ways had it been called the "Super Wii" instead, I couldn't agree more. instead, it just looks like Buddy Holly). It was really stupid for them to prohibit DVD/Blu-Ray playback, and their non-game related services tend to need work most of the time, but I have to hand it to them for always trying something new and going their own way. They're an overly-creative, overly-eager bunch and they tend to get blindsided when they're in their most starry-eyed states, but at least it doesn't stop them. They go from making a world-famous game like Mario Kart or Smash Bros, to making something like Wario Ware. Usually whenever they have a tanking console, the game library starts to really improve itself too (N64 and Gamecube) so hopefully at least some AAA titles will come out of it.
I have no doubt that some great games will eventually come out for the console. Whether it will be in time or enough remains to be seen. The idea of Nintendo ending up in a Sega-like situation seems unlikely at the moment, but not impossible. If the Wii U does poorly, the next generation might be when Nintendo gives up on making hardware. Then again, it's really difficult to predict what the videogame industry will be like 6-7 years from now. One thing that does seem rather likely is that Nintendo will eventually start making games for other platforms, even if they continue making their own hardware. Mobile games are extremely popular and profitable, and I think as time goes on Nintendo will find it more and more difficult to resist that possibility. It might become necessary, but it could happen even if it's not - simply because they could make a lot more money.
They could seal the deal with a console Pokemon RPG with online battles, or go risky (nintendo?never) and make a Pokemon MMO. Either case, the machine would make a basis for itself, albeit in the younger demographic, as usual.
Far from me to say that the WiiU is Nintendo's worst effort or that it's gonna be the thing to doom them, but good god have they dropped the ball on a few things. -The name. This is actually one of the least serious issues I have with it, but considering it's supposed to be something to start appealing to more "oldbie" gamers again... it's fucking atrocious to slap the "Wii" name on it (And don't give me that horseshit about "oh but the name makes sense since it uses Wii Remotes", because a) the Wii used Gamecube controllers, yet that wasn't called the GamecubeU or anything, and b) fuck you), most likely being a cheap attempt to get the "casual" Wii crowd to turn out their pockets again (which backfired due to the price and the name only confusing "casuals" into thinking, to this day, that the WiiU is simply an accessory for the Wii). -The release, namely it being too early. For one, there were no real must have titles at launch. Granted, neither did the 3DS, but Nintendo fixed that shit relatively quickly and in spades, far moreso than they have for the WiiU in over a year. Also, though even its launch price was lower than the prices of the PS4 and Xbone, giving the technology a little more time to age a bit more would let Nintendo launch the WiiU near the PS4/Xbone's launches at a competitive price from the get-go. -Nintendo deciding to put GBA and DS games on the Virtual Console on the Wii-goddamn-U. This is kinda bullshit, namely for destroying any last chances to publicly release GBA games on the 3DS (much more to simply go in and give GBA games proper emulation), and how some DS games could get cocked up if Nintendo sticks with the whole "Gamepad=touchscreen TV=topscreen" garbage (or simply left in the dust due to massively separated screens being an issue). -The advertising, quite frankly, sucks, especially considering that little issue of people confusing the WiiU for being something for the Wii. -NINTENDO NOT ANNOUNCING A REAL, NON-SPINOFF, NON-PORT ZELDA GAME FOR THE CONSOLE AFTER MORE THAN A FUCKING YEAR OF THE CONSOLE BEING OUT -[other stuff I haven't thought of yet but will hopefully edit this post with later] It's a shame, since I've massively enjoyed what I have played on the WiiU so far (Mario 3D World, Wind Waker HD, Wonderful 101) and am looking forward to so much more (Smash4, a real and new Zelda title, etc).
Through reading this thread i'm going to have to agree that the wii u is a gimmick and was an absolutely absurd decision by nintendo. The wii was successful because nintendo actually made money from selling consoles. However the price of the wii u tablet is just too much for the modern consumer to invest in without guarantee of great titles and a truly good gaming experience, especially in the recession. Nintendo are shitting out mario games for the wii u without realising that everyone wants to see a new starfox game, or 2d metroid game, or F zero game, or any other of their IP's for the wii u!!! That being said, i will only be buying a wii u for smash bros wii u. If smash bros wasnt going to be released for wii u, i wouldnt buy the console.
