    Hi,

today i got my complete cross saturn dev setup. I like to share it with you.
Anything is suberb and full working condition. Comes with a Mirage, Cartdev, cable, Docs and Software.
Very cool is the two Cartdevcarts, one have slots for RAM so you can use it as memory i think.
Also the complete Software with any test/install disks and GCC Development envoirment.
The Datakey( i think the dongle for the mirage?).
Have to setup it with my dev pc. Another pics will follow...

Many thanks to my friend giving me this awesome setup :friendly_wink:

Nice collection, any chance you could show us what does what? For those who have no idea. Thanks!

EDIT: never mind lol, just read your post properly. My mind is elsewhere at the moment. :)

Cartdev or mirage are connected one side to the saturn, other side the PC.
For the Mirage you need that datakey also (mirageOUT->PC):

I start connecting anything. Im very happy any cable include, Plug&Play setup :encouragement:.

Nice! About those devcarts: we need something like this with a switch and 3 or 4 brackets for multi-cart usage.
I know I keep repeating myself, but having seen this now, it's just a matter of someone adapting these, starting from such a cart...

I backup now all the disks. Follow Software is include:

    Cartdev Confidence Test V2.1
    Mirage Support Disk V1.31a
MM Pro 16 IIB - 3d FP (Something for Sound i think)
    Saturn CO Tools
GCC Version SOA 960130 (8 Disks! I think a IDE)
    Snasm 2 Saturn V2.11b

Have to wait for Adaptec 154x SCSI controller to get anything up and running.

great to see someone actually got the all - well almost all - components to give this baby up and running. ^ ^
sadly mine's been doing a good job of display decoration after I tided up the cable and etc. to be more presentable... :p
(...still missus is constantly asking for the space for her Barbie collection. T^T)

I got now the AHA-1540CP and a RGB cable. Will try to install anything on this weekend. Pictures follow soon.
I really interesting in the GCC IDE, looking very long time for this... When im right it can also be used for the N64. And the best thing the docs based on that.

But im still searching for a SCSI 1 interface for the mirage, pretty hard to find one these days..
http://www.ebay.de/itm/121089615460?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 this will do it but oversea shipping -.-

The Mirage doesn't need a dongle. That's clearly marked PSY-Q, a completely different dev kit made by Psygnosis.

It's SCSI, just chain the devices. You choose the appropriate version of the SCSI card for the SCSI cable you have. I remember Sega warning against using a particular SCSI card, I think it was an AHA-1540A or B model. I use the 1542, anyway.

SCSI card > Mirage SCSI IN | Mirage SCSI OUT > CartDev (or terminate on the Mirage)

    Then connect the CD cable.

    The manual explains all this.

My setup is sadly missing the CD cable. Oh, and an original PSU lol.

Anyway, hope you get it up and running soon! Give me a shout when you get bored of it ;) lol

    Hi retro,

first step is passed. The Cartdev is up and running:

i used the 2940 PCI Adaptec for it.

i bought the 1540CP for the mirage. But that interface is ISA and dont popup on win98SE. On systemstartup with connected mirage it brings me an bootup error. But ok i used that dongle between! I will try it without. But i will not have many luck without the ASPI Driver installed...
And yes that cd cable looks special. "Devlin Electronics" is written on it as manufacturer.

I will have a look for the 1542.

Did you have any docs for the mirage? If got only infos for the cartdev or the sophia. Comes your mirage with hdd? my unit is without a HDD. Any document will help.

edit: without the dongle (on the 2940) and VCD connected the mirage looks like working green and orange led is up. But have some startup problems. Maybe with 1542 runs better.

    About that dongle:

Was PSY not stand for the Playstation cd Emulator? Not sure that interface needs an dongle...

I don't think it will make any difference - the 1542 is just a 1540 with a floppy disk controller on the board in addition to the SCSI.

No - read my old guides on what Saturn dev kits were available. Sophia, CartDev and Psy-Q. Psygnosis made the Psy-Q as a cheap alternative for many systems, including Saturn, PlayStation and Nintendo 64. The PSY is derived from Psygnosis. Nothing to do with PlayStation.

Both my Mirages have hard drives - they're 1Gb SCSI, 50 pin IIRC. The Mirage won't really do anything without one.

Yes, you need to use an ISA SCSI card. Yes, you'll need the driver for them for ANY Windows (XP might have support). It'll work with that Indy sitting next to it, too. You might be able to use a PCI card on a more modern system, but that's the card Sega recommended at the time.

Yes, I have the Mirage manual. You should be reading the manuals - there's a specific boot order for these devices if you're chaining them. PM me.

Regarding the cable, do you have the facility to test if they're straight through connections?

yes i read that boot order, and i think mirage have the same as cartdev or sophia, well i handle it so...

for the cable i can test it tomorrow for you. The mirage manual will be great! Will PM you.

Just wonder because that dongle hangs on the mirage cable. And i think this setup was untouched from a dev desk :).

I also got today the edo rams. I put 2x16MB on the cartdev interface, not sure how i can test it. But the cartdev test was with the ram.

The RAM only emulates the expansion cartridges, pretty useless. (like KOF95 and the Japanese-only games)

Have you some pics of SCSI ISA card who drive the Cartdev ?

I have a 1540CF but PSYBIOS does not detect the Cartdev. IRQ and I/O on the SCSI card are set according to PSYBIOS and Cartdev manual but I can't communicate with Cartdev.

i used the Adaptec 2940 PCI controller for the cartdev. works perfect for me. Plug&Play :wink-new:. No dip switching and so... And the conftest you see above was made with the 2940.
For the mirage i will use my indy. Thanks to retro for the docs!

A 2940 ?! I have this SCSI card but psybios needs some I/O what isn't supported by 2940. How can you communicate with Cartdev with this SCSI card ?

PSYBIOS comes on the Psy-Q disc from Psygnosis. Why are you trying to use it with the Cross Products CartDev?!?

Once again for those who weren't listening:

Sophia's target box and Cross Products' CartDev were official dev kits from Sega. Psy-Q was an unofficial dev kit.

THEY HAVE THEIR OWN HARDWARE. THEY HAVE THEIR OWN SOFTWARE.

The number one rule is RTFM.
