It's not a shooter though. "Lengthy Anime babe cutscenes occasionally interrupted by isometric mech action"would be a better description.
100% spot on but I like to class it as a shooter just to make the DC libary look bigger  Probably not. I can't stand Ikaruga if I have to play it the "correct" way just like with Treasure's RSG. So to be honest I'm not the right person to ask but even though I'd still say Last Hope isn't as good. Maybe if you compared Last Hope to another 2D horizontal shooter such as Border Down. Hang on, that's better than all the other DC shooters :love2: Yakumo
Border Down, huh? I looked it up on your site (which I use for all my Dreamcast needs :nod and looks awesome. The description didn't say how rare it was or anything along those lines. Some dude in this other forum is selling the LE for $350 USD and admitted the price was a little high. How much does the regular edition go for? It looks like a title I'd like to obtain in the near future...
That's because when I wrote the description the game was only 1 week old. now Border Down is the most expensive and probably most rare shooter on the DC. Finding Twinkle Star Sprites (which is hard) for a good price is piss easy compared to finding Border down, let a lone at a cheap price. Boarder Down will cost you about 40 pounds (Normal Edition) and even that is cheap. Anyone selling it less than that is either stupid or needs cash soon. Yakumo
Pretty rare. I've marked it as "quite". http://www.gamengai.com/gm_inf.php?gm_id=895 PC-E has plenty of turds, too. Saturn & Playstation have the highest number of arcade-perfect ports, although some are pretty old games. The Dreamcast, the lowest when you consider only the Naomi games are "high quality" ports... and they're not really ports. Actually, TSS & Gunbird 2 are good. The others are for the most part broken, and most of the Naomi games are mediocre at best. The PC-Engine, for the time, had some great games. But, of course, a stack of shit too...Sapphire being one of the worst.
That's sweet. The whole idea of "bordering down" sounds really cool. It adds some strategy to the whole don't get hit by anything and blow everything up gameplay. :icon_bigg
Border Down has a very painful rank system incorporated into it. You mainly "border down" to keep the rank from ripping your asshole wide open. It's one of those games were "no miss" is punished, not rewarded. In all honesty, I hate this concept -- I like the game though. There are some super play vids of it on super-play.co.uk. Check them out...very impressive. EDIT: 5000th post...blow me everyone!
Border Down looks really good. I was so ignorant to what the DC is capable of. For the longest time when I thought of the DC the only game that came to mind is Crazy Taxi.
While I admit the DC lacks in a lot of areas (retro games being the main one) it has some cool stuff. I'm kind of stuck "in the old days" at the moment, but Jet Set Radio is one of my favorites. Of course, there's a nice list of others that are great too.
I think I know who:dance: Still think I will sell it (don´t need it sealed;-) ), but I guess I will have to go little cheapier (and maybe wait to after the summer).
I don't remember the name but it was in the Shmups forum. It came up when I googled Border Down. mmmm...shooting games...
Someone sold one REALLY cheaply in the Shmups forums not too long ago. I think he didn't know what it went for. I remember buying three of them new (1 for me, 2 for a friend) w/ the mousepad and soundtrack and everything. Ah, the good old days. I'm a dipshit for not saving one. You should check out Cave's stuff. The best their is, and they're still making it.
@GP Why don't you like Sapphire? I think it has amazing graphics and sounds, paired with -ok thats true- standard BUT still good gameplay. Its fun to play though imo, due to its technical aspects.
Agreed, Its not an amazing shooter, but its a very passable effort. I'd say somewhere in the 50-60 range on the pce (out of 109, with 1 being the best 109 the worst) Normally I'd say this was just a case of people ragging on a game because its expensive..but given that its GP and Tatsujin (both of whom I respect as gamers/collectors) I know that's not the case. But its not that bad surely guys??
hey, i'm a big big fan of sapphire:nod: not the top but in the top 10. it blows me away everytime i play it. and usually i hate prerender sprites. but on an ol' '87 hardware, it's just like chrismas and birthday together. the gameplay is OK as well and the BGM rox the ceiling down. the only distrubing thing is the FXs issue.
