The guy over at RetroRGB used an Extron to turn it into a 240p signal with good results. Im going to look into it a bit more.

Very nice work, looks great and seems to work very well. Props on the finishing touches, it really looks good as a console.

Only negative thing I might have to say is not about your work but about the Innovation GBA - TV adapter.
I don't like that thing. The built in scaling sucks, Fortunately for you the TV you use can zoon. It also has an occasional stutter issue. I read somewhere it is caused by converting from a weird refresh rate used by the GBA.

I once wanted to make a consolized GBA but settled with the Super retro advance, which I really like.

Perhaps it would be possible to overclock the GBA to 59.94Hz and have the Innovation adapter match this too. That would mean stutter-free gameplay on a larger screen, and the difference in speed would be so small that no one would notice :)

Yeah, but you can only do that with 480p sources. So it won't work with the Innovation adapter.

While the Gameboy player converted to 240p looks good and is a vast improvement, it does still lack some sharpness :/

The super retro advance outputs 240p natively and despite using composite is actually sharper than the game boy player, in full screen scaling.

Composite makes me vomit :) I prefer original hardware as well. But I have to admit that GBA on a Retron 5 looks stunning.

We certainly do see things a bit differently since I am a strict CRT user.
I normally frown on composite but the one out of the SRA gets a pass from me since it looks better than the game cube GB player with the Component cable.

The more I watch the video, the more I think you can do a better video of it.

Months work in a blurry video sits wrong with me. I'd love to hear about the challenges you had, and the build process.

Some internal shots would be cool

Ha ha- Thanks for the vote of confidence. The reason the video is blurry is because my phone is 4 years old and its my only video recording device. The lens is actually pretty dirty from the inside as well. However, I plan on buying a new one within a couple of months. Also, Im really busy right now, working an average of 70+ hours a week. Hopefully by the time I get around to picking up a new phone, things will have settled down for me as well. Ill put together a new, not blurry video showing off a bit more and going a bit more in depth about it. Maybe Ill have had some time to work on the controller a bit as well.

    BEARKING-

I looked around some more and apparently you CAN use an Extron on a 480i source.

I'm just stumbling upon this thread now...that thing is awesome, excellent work!

I was always hoping Tim Worthington would make an RGB kit for the GBA, for situations exactly like this. I actually emailed him about it and he said it wasn't something he was planning on making, since it would require a custom case. Even with 3D printing going down in price it would still be pretty expensive, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that someday he'll try it. Even though the Game Boy Player can now run in 240p, I'd still much rather buy an RGB-modded / consolized GBA then use the gamecube.

Just an FYI - The 480i to 240p Extron equipment doesn't work with all displays. On my PVM-20M2U, it just looked like 480i, but on my friend's BVM-D32E1WU, it looked like 240p.

Not knowing much about it, how does Swiss work Bearking? A GBP setup is on my list of things to buy. Is there a Japanese SD Loader, as Id like to pick up a Japanese cube (I know its easy enough to mod but still)

I have an older version of Swiss installed on the flash memory of my Qoob Chip. I can boot that, and then use a homemade SDgecko (SD reader) to boot the newest version. Then it's as simple as selecting 240p in the settings and boot your disc :)

I actually had some trouble getting this to work, as you can see here:
    http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?53015-Qoob-and-Swiss-problems

It can also be booted using an Action Replay, and possibly other exploits. But I have no experience with any of that, sorry :)

This looks amazing, it's inspiring me to do something similar. However I have to ask, does the GBA TV adapter work with PAL televisions or will I have to buy something different?
