Could Silent Hill finally be the first good movie based on a game?

I'm probably the last person to bring this up since I'm (a) not big into horror movies and (b) never really got into Silent Hill. That being said, after having seen commercials and a behind the scenes feature on Starz I really think they might have gotten this one right. I'm not sure how faithful it is to the original story (I know they took stuff from all the games) but the atmosphere sure fells like a Silent Hill game. I wondering what some other people here think?

Yep, Silent Hill looks promising. I'm anxious to see it.

I will reserve judgment until the ending. A lot of horror/video game movies are fine until the last 15-20 minutes.

Thing about videogame movies is that it will suck if its faithful to the videogame, but that depends on the game also. Anyway, regarding SH. It looks like the screenplay writers did a good job and the movie looks good enough to were it will appeal to most fans and most movie goers.

It does look good, but I dare say there will be some cop-out "she learns kung-fu after being nearly taken over/killed by some guy in a big monster costume and kicks him onto a spikey railing/off a cliff/etc"

I've never played the game, but I love the poster. Interesting casting too.

Seeing this movie with a few friends the day it comes out...looks real good. The first time I saw the trailer, I thought it was going to be cheesy, but it didn't look bad at all.

I can only hope that it stays fairly faithful to the game, at least the first one anyways. I'm not asking for DOOM type faithful, but MK faithful would be wonderful.

I've got very fond memories of the Silent Hill series and from what I've seen of the trailers, it looks like they've not f-ed it up too badly. Playing the game in 5.1 on a 60" projection with a blacked out room just made that game the only game to give me the heebies. Here's to hoping the movie does the same.

Yes, it is. It's a shame that the movie theatres don't bother to optimize the projectors even when they have digital ones. It's so bad in the theatres around here that my wife and I have taken to waiting for the DVD to come out for some movies.

I can't wait to see it, Silent Hill games being some of my favorites ever. The only things I can't stand so far is they changed the story from the first rather then making a new one, which could be better, who knows, and they look to be doing the thing most 2000's horror movies seem to do, which is make alittle kid look all scary like Excorcist style. I really hope it's a good movie though, can't wait.

    There's going to be a MK3 movie?!?

I thought they did all the prequel crap with the MK TV series. Then again I couldn't follow the story line long enough to figure out if it was a prequel or not.

Yeah, it was live action. I think it was like MK: Konquest.

Konquest wasn't too bad, it just suffered from not having the same channel/timeslot from week to week.

MK3 will at least have Lambert back as Raiden.
