Did people really not like the first Resident Evil movie? (i liked the second one too, but i can understand being in the minority on that)

The first RE movie wasnt too bad, but I would of liked it to of followed the first game a bit closer than it did. The 2nd movie was total poop sorry :p

An interesting fact about the Silent Hill movie is that it was shot in a ghost town called Centralia, which has had an underground fire since 1961 :p

    Read about it here:

Resident Evil was good up until the part where she karate kicks the dog. That just ruined it for me.

BS, I went there and the town doesnt even exist anymore. Theres like 4 or 5 houses surrounded in wasteland. 4 or 5 residents live there when I went, and besides that theres toxic fumes EVERYWHERE. Do you really think they'd let actors in that enviroment? Hell no.

I heard no mention of Centralia as a shooting location, and I think I woulda heard about it seeing as the town is only an hour or so away from me. However that said, yes Centrailia was most likely thought of when they were making the back story for the movie. The movie was filmed in Ontario, Canada

    BTW, pics from the trip:

Amazing, never heard of that place before, hard to think the govenment would not have been rallied by every environmental group in the US to get them to stop it.

I can't stand the Resident Evil movies. I still feel (though some here disagree) that the Romero script was far superior to the POS that ended up being filmed. Paul W. S. Anderson is a hack that fucks up every major franchise he touches

I think that there are two problems with video game movies:

    1) The majority of people working on the script, directing the movie and those acting in the movie have probably never even touched a video game console, let alone played the game the movie is about. Even those that do, only do so in passing. True character actors, for example, need to get to know their part before acting it.

    2) Video game movies are a niche market and as such, the most vocal critics are the fans of the video game or game genre. You cannot develop the same relationship with movie characters as you do with game characters due to the time constraints. In the same manner, you will lose a lot of the intricate plot details in translation/condensation as well. Nothing can be done to counter that short of making the movie a mini-series. It is the same problem as adapting a book for the big screen; things will be cut out.

I think one problem with the movie was that they tried to push all this content from the games into one single 1.5 hour movie.. I feel that if they would split this up into lets say 20 1h episodes so they really could build something up then it could have been much better..
1.5h isn't enough for a silent hill movie imho.

    edit:
either that.. or just rip out some parts and concentrate it more. like it was now it was just a big ball of confusion.

oh well.. the games are still great [IMG]

The original title for the move was Silent Hill: Centralia, which I got from here: http://imdb.com/title/tt0384537/

I cannot find the source of where I read that the movie was shot there now, but what would I know being on the other side of the world

Those toxic fumes you saw there are from the underground fire, right? (nice pictures by the way)

As far as I know, underground fires in mines and such are near impossible to stop.

And marsil, the main problem is that not everybody likes videogames (or mature animation to name another not-so-popular genre) but movies with their high costs need to be suited for everybody, because if only a niche market sees them, the studio is fucked with debt.

I actually went to see this movie, it wasn't the greatest...it did have some pretty good scene but that's about all. Other then that I find it was pretty shitty.
However the I have to agree with most, the Gore in the movie was excellent, loved the end part of it best part in the movie is the last 15 minutes :)

All you have to do is cave in the mines, lack of oxygen will put out the fires. A few dozen high yeild explosives could take care of it.

That only works when they know about all of the major air access points. An additional problem occurs when the area around those intake points is filled with flammable gasses.

Of course, I'm all for the big boom...
