What most people don't realize (and likely never will, since the time has passed) is that when Super Mario Bros came out, it completely revolutionized the platform game genre... and for a VERY long time, nothing on computers could compare. At all. Except Giana Sisters. Seriously, computers (any of them. Not just C64) did not manage to get a game to rival SMB until Nesticle came out and you could simply emulate SMB itself... except for Giana Sisters, which was DAMN close to SMB itself, and even better in some respects. I wouldn't be at all surprised if all the people in this thread who say Giana Sisters is awesome were people who grew up with a C64 while their friends had NES's (which is exactly what happened to me). They got a taste of SMB, but put in real time with Giana Sisters. Likewise, all the folks saying Giana Sisters wasn't great were either NES owners who put in their real time with SMB itself, or are simply too young for the whole thing. --Zero
Ze_ro: I actually agree with you when it comes to certain things. Cause Giana Sister WAS fucking great ! and in my mind still is.
Emphasis on the "In your mind still is" part. When it breaks down to it is, if you're nostalgic for this game, than it rivals SMB. But at FACTS core. SMB came out. This game cloned it. And was close but no cigar, a game is not STILL great if you "had to be there" when it came out.
I played it the first time in the 1990´s, so screw that "had to be there" part of it . Hell I did not have a pc until I was 12, so give me a break, okay ? I did see SMB3 either after or before GS, but that does not change my point of view when it comes to this game at all. My first console was an SMS 1. The next console I bought for my own money was a SNES, and if you ask me. Then the NES is overhyped, in comparison to the C64 and what ever. So if we say "fuck all the fanboy shit". And we take a look at the game itself, and not where it has taken its inspiration. Then in my mind, and millions of other C64 fans. They still think that particular game has a soul, no matter how much it has been inspired by SMB1. Then the music alone is fucking great and a master piece. The levels.. yeah some of them were inspired by SMB1. but NOT all of them, and neither were the monsters. So if you ask me, if it was NOT for Nintendo suing everything and nothing when it came to this game. Then I do not think it would have created so much of a fuss. But thanks to the fuss, and the lawsuit, then Giana Sisters is one of the most pirated C64 games of all times.
yeah, that comment was perhaps not the best to say. But the mainpoint is, this game would not have been so damn copied and all that jazz. If Nintendo hadn't sued .
