Just because you decide to run a backup on actual hardware (whether it's on a flashcart or disc media) instead of an emulator doesn't automatically make it legal. What kind of silly logic is that? :110: We're just trying to make a point clear here, or at least I am. You have to remember though, we have always treated warez much differently than proto/unreleased material (for some reason) such as the Sonic X-treme link ASSEMbler provided some time ago. Heck, I've even seen it where Mods have edited posts leaving comments like "warez is not allowed" on the side. It's all illegal in my eyes. It doesn't make sense in a way, but yeah that's how it is. I never said I'm a Mister Perfect either.
I can understand both side of the argument however theres so many grey areas. For example if you own a original copy of an unrelesed game/proto then it's usually seen as ok, sure you shouldn't technically own it as its not really meant to be in the hands of the public. However if you then go release that game & everyone then gets it then its just been pirated. Im no angel myself, i download the latest japanese ds games im interested in buying to see if they are worth paying for (so much crap out nowdays its becoming an import minefield), if i like it then it gets deleted & i buy the original, if it's crap it just gets deleted. I refuse to pay hard cash for crappy games & by god theres a load on the ds. I use it as a way of trying out before i buy, sure its wrong but i accept that. (i just know im going to get blasted for posting that)
Gee. It seems like some people are way too eager to jump on that hate wagon. I've never seen people throwing the word "Pirate" around when someone mentioned the GP2X, and we all know playing ROMs is a big selling point for it. Downloading SNES Roms is illegal, yet tons of people do it. I paid for a copy of Digimon World for the DS, but when I didn't get my copy from the store on Ebay (I waited a long ass time), I simply couldn't wait any longer and THOUGHT I was going to get it anyway, so I downloaded a DS emulator and the game. If you think thats wrong, then you can go along and preach to me about how pirating stuff you already own is the biggest internet sin to me, and I wouldn't give two shits about your opinion, because you obviously are some un-level headed crusader of morality with messed up ways of thinking. And on here, you'd also be a massive hypocrite. In a way, you could best be described as acting like JACK THOMPSON. I'd advise some of our members who are calling GoH a pirate should just look where they fucking are for a second. This topic has been brought up before, not by Hardcore, and it ends up the same way Mr. Casual, so your point about that is null and void. Like Mark said, I'm no angel myself. But IMO hardcore is asking for it by making this thread especially since he brought the piracy point up himself.

I don't think you fully understand. This was a support topic. I've made several topics like this in the past, and not one person got on to me for being a pirate. Either that, or I don't remember anyone getting their panties in a twist over it. This was a SUPPORT topic (repetition is good for the brain), not him just saying "I just downloaded a lot of games lol" The repro topic is different, because the guy who made those is SELLING them for PROFIT. No worries man, why I am defending GoH here, is because I have seen VERY similar threads about altering games. And some of them involved DC games, and "that was not piracy" but give me a fucking break. It is the same fucking deal, and did I direct it to any one ? only those who are offended by my statement. Anyways moving on since I don't want to dwell on that let me give an example in fact THE Example as both discs I downloaded contain this game. Marvel VS Capcom 2 Music sucks we all know that BUT there are CDIs of it floating around this here interweb with music that doesn't one even freely available on a Mainstream (somewhat) blog. 1 disc has I kill Pxls (look him up he's pretty cool) as the music and it fits quite well. The other disc the one with other fighters on it (All of which I own already) lets you choose the music so say you want to play SSFII X with CVS2 music you can or MVC2 with Puzzle fighter music (which is AWESOME too) you can do that. Are we all in agreement that Marvel VS Capcom 2's music sucks? Can we justify then why we'd want an alternate version with better/different music?

just to be honest, the FFThacking project lies on my hosting. No illegal files are shared or anything, but the project is based on the disc owners to make a modified copy of it, burn it and play it. also from what i know, in 90% of countries, you have the right to make a backup of your disc to preserve it. that means that even if you buy a scratched disc, you still have the right to play the game. so, ODDLY enough i have to support GOH (i never tought it would happen ) karsten

Well, I came across disc 1 of Shenmue II. It was the PAL release, but the Japanese spoken dialogue was replaced with the English dialogue from the Xbox version - don't know exactly what the point was (as the English dialogue is terrible), but I thought it to be a really neat idea. For the record, I own Shenmue I LE and Shenmue II LE on DC as well as the Xbox version of Shenmue II....so I guess I'm safe in having this hybrid disc ;-) lol
