Thats how you establish a reputation though - no ones going to send high value items to a no body. But do some lower value stuff, send it all back and get glowing feedback, then you are going to get sent higher value stuff.

Quite true, but what a waste of time, and considering he's using information that can identify him (if it's he's real information), not a very smart scammer.

All things considered, either he genuinely is a person who has very bad luck when it comes to family and health, or he is in financial difficulty. Some people try to get out of financial difficulty by selling stuff / services, only to find the money swallowed before they can ship the items etc. Embarrassment might lead to you hiding rather than owning up to what's happened. Still, you shouldn't keep doing it if that's the case.

When it comes to offering services or selling items, communication is required 100% of the time. Otherwise people speculate the worst.

Very much so. Unfortunate when you have unforeseen health problems, certainly - but unless you're Michael Schumacher, you would have thought communication in three months through a family member would have been possible.

Every time I look at this thread, I think the same thing. If this were a scam it's probably the least efficient scam I've ever seen. Not only does it take years of posting to implement it, but the return is only a couple thousand worth of video game items. (Which he can't sell because they are so niche that the best place to sell them are the forums he scammed... which ain't gonna happen) He also left his private information wide open.

Brioche, what does one have to do to add there case to the DT "file cabinet" at the rate this thread is going, I wouldn't be surprised if it's reached the people threshold already.

The sentence before mentions a five-figure threshold. That's at least $10k, if not more. You said it was only a couple of grand's worth.

To be fair, Neo Geo isn't niche and Xbox certainly isn't. Yes, people on the forum would be looking out for them. However, he could easily get a friend to take them in another state and eBay them. How are you going to tell one Neo Geo from another?

This is very disappointing news to hear at the beginning of the new year:( i had high hopes, with wizards help, that we were going to get our stuff!! Now it looks like david is a big time scammer and we will probably never see our stuff. Will see if the individual that texted wizard will come through for us!!

Always worth going through the motions still. You never know - a different department might be more willing to help. Or they may look at the previous reports and decide it's worth investigating.

With respect to the new users entering the thread, you don't know them - they could be putting you off the scent. Not that I don't believe Brioche - his story is plausible. Plus he's got the same IP address as two other members and they have no reason to be making multiple accounts, so I'm sure he wouldn't jeopardize friends' accounts ;)

Exactly, the items he got were nothing really valuable either. It was all Xbox stuff and really nothing that special. A bunch of modchips? How weird. Feel sorry for those who lost their consoles though...

Not true. Megatron said David Thomas has 1500 dollars worth of his stuff. That seems pretty valuable to me.

Keyword "worth of", issue is no individual items were over a grand were they? I've kinda forgotten what stuff he has now, but majority of Xbox stuff isn't worth that much.

Who knows if he still has Mega's stuff, most likely not.

Are you kidding me dude. Have you seen how much a Friendtech Xbox Dreamx goes for there has only been 2 that has shown up on eBay and one went for 1500.00 the other for $300.00 (that one was not the processor upgrade)!! There is only one guy I know that has one and hes on neogeo forums and he wont sell it, but he said if he wanted to sell it he would do $2000.00 since he paid $1500.00 a few years ago. They are ultra rare my friend because people don't want to give them up and I was lucky to get them from a private collector. Try finding one you will never find one FS. I paid $1000.00 for one and $300.00 for the other and David has both!! The reason I sent them to David was so he could install 750GB HDDs in them. David also has a dual processor trusty board that I purchased for $300.00, Another xbox with the trusty 1.4 upgrade for $600.00 I sent it to him for repairs, N64freak 1ghz board that David was going to install in another Xbox for me, 750GB HDD, Xbox red clear case, and a xxsmartchip. I was being modest on the price of my stuff but if you work it out I'm out over $2000.00. So this is not a little amount!!!

Update: I talked to my attorney and really the only opinion we have is to take him to small claims court. We do need to contact the local police there and see what can be done. The website I supplied we all need to file a complaint on there if this individual doesn't come through for us. These are really are only opinions i'm afraid:(
