Hey guys, it's me again. This time with an auction for the USA version of the canceled game Deep Fear. This was released in Japan and Europe but never the US. Not sure on the state of this build but pretty sure it's final. If there is debug in it, I don't know how to access it. It doesn't have a date it was burned, is burned on Saturn media and the two discs are in pretty pristine condition. I tried them in a US Saturn using an official red system disc and it loaded up just fine. This is region coded for the US Saturn and was never released in the US.

The fine print. Auction is for 5 days and will end 4pm PST on Monday 2/21/11. Auction is open worldwide. No Paypal accepted. Buyer must mail a bank or post office money order not made out to anyone the day after the auction ends and must be received by 2/28/11. If you have purchased from me on my recent auctions on Ebay then you can contact me though PM for paying for the item. If not, the second highest bidder in line will receive the discs. Questions or comments, please ask. Any PM's sent to end the auction early will not be answered unless it's an obnoxious amount and then I reserve the right to end the auction at any time for any reason.

Discs are working and tested in a US Saturn. Item sold as is, no refunds will be issued. Once you win and pay, the discs are yours.

I'll use this second post to keep updating bids. Starts at $50 and must go up by $25 each time.

    $150.

Are you accepting bids from newcomers without reference now, then?

Can you clarify that you're not accepting bank transfers this time? Or Western Union? You're kind of alienating International buyers. As far as I am aware, the only way to get the equivalent of an International Money Order in the UK is to walk into your bank and ask for a banker's draft in dollars. I'm not sure that they'll hand one of those out over the counter - were I to order dollars in cash, there's a waiting period. Incidentally, 4pm PST = midnight UK time, so you're effectively saying that we have to take time off work to go to the bank that day. Standard mail is expected 10-14 days to the US, so we're also going to have to spend a lot more using an express method of shipping this order.

Could you clarify what this means, please? It kinda reads that you HAVE to have won one of your eBay items to be able to PM you! I'm sure that's not the case, though - right?

synbiosfan has bought many things from me recently on ebay so he's a trusted buyer or normally I would ask for references from a new poster. Basically I was saying just that in that if someone is new here and I have sold to them previously then they should email me so I can line up the two names and treat them as a trusted buyer.

Well, since I've heard so many nightmare stories here about Paypal in Europe this was the way I could find out how to do it fairly. If you have a better option to receive a payment from over the pond, I'm all ears.

Obnoxious offers are being accepted from everyone... I'm not going to discriminate :)

Ah, that clears both those points - thanks! :)

I still feel we need some more stringent guidelines on auctions conducted on site, but that's neither your problem nor something to discuss here. In case it came up in future, though, there's a thread in feedback (2011 rules). All comments welcome - yours included!

As it's going off topic, I'll PM you on payment matters.

oh, 4 pm = 1 am in the night in Europe :-/

    just 2 fast questions:

    - So the game only boots with the Saturn system disc?

    - Is there any reference in the game that this is the US version, maybe "SEGA America" or "US Version" written somewhere in the start screen or something? Not that I don't trust you, but just to have a proof in the future when nobody knows about this auction

    thx!

I actually was curious how unique this thing is. Wouldn't it practically be the EU version just with the region changed to US?

Assuming the PAL version isn't PAL optimized I'd assume so. Even then it'd be trivial to take the Japanese version and swap around the necessary files to produce a copy in English that has everything as intended for 60hz operation.

    EDIT:
    Discovered 2 fun facts.
    1) The European version is apparently PAL optimized or at least doesn't operate "better" upon modding a PAL Saturn with a 50/60hz switch.
    2) This version is out and about in bittorrent form. Unreleased yes. Unavailable to the general public no.

I don't know how else it can boot as I was a Sega employee so I have both a red and black disc so the only way I know to boot a pre-production game is from either one of those.

Most, if not all games developed by SOJ have the Sega Enterprises LTD. sign on them.

It'll likely boot just fine with a modchip installed or by using the swap trick. Assuming you're a total idiot and want to risk scratching up something so rare (for the swap trick that is. Modchips don't require swapping).

The red disc (and probably the black disc too but I'm not 100% sure of the difference anymore) does the same job the System Disc 2 did on the Dreamcast which was bypassing the need for the security ring being needed to authenticate the CD-R. A modchip does the same thing through a different method.

For Saturn, the red disc was for first party games and the black was for third party discs which is why the red is harder to find than the black.

The Dreamcast System 2 disc was used for both third and first party so basically a black and red in one single disc.

Good to know. Any plans to sell your red or black disc?

Very interested to see what this fetches as I have copies of this too! (They work fine on a modded saturn I have btw)

I wonder how it differs from the Lost & Found V3 version, and the one the SegaSaturno guys released a while back.

Any normal method of booting a CD-R will work fine. As stated, you'd need the red system disc if you want to go down that route.

Could we have the version number and date, please?
