    What?!

I don't agree with this at all. If you're going to have an auction, have an auction... publically - don't end it privately.

i have to agree here. You can't set up an auction then just finish it without notice. You need to set a time limit and stick to it. Keep it fair for all users.

Well, I did state in the original post that I reserved the right to close the auction early at any time and for any reason. I didn't know that was against the rules for it.

Sorry as I don't have much experience with auctions outside of eBay.

You could tell this was going to happen, when it comes to items that are rare and worth money, things are rarely ever fair.

That wasn't your wording now, was it? More along the lines of "don't bother PMing me with offers, they will be ignored... unless they're great offers!"

As I mentioned before, the problem is that the rules are vague, we haven't had many auctions and, sadly, yours are showing how poorly regulated they are. Not your fault, it's something that was bound to happen.

Having said that, didn't you think that closing the auction early would annoy a lot of people?

To be honest, my experience with your auctions hasn't been good. You've made it harder and harder for International buyers, and now you're taking deals privately and closing without even consulting those who have bid. Why have an auction in the first place if you're not going to give us time, or even the opportunity, to put up a counter offer?

I'm a Saturn collector, but I'm sorry to say this experience has put me off wanting to bid on any more of your stuff.

I think you are combining the wording of my Geist auction and this auction with regards to closing it early. I wanted to see what Geist would go for but for this one, I accepted crazy offers just to be done with it since I'm running out of time.

Again, the problem with the international bidding is not being able to accept Paypal due to the craziness of charge backs. If there was some magical way to accept payment that was safe for both the buyer and the seller I would be all over it.

I'm not good with auctions outside of ebay and not doing any more of them here. I have some Dreamcast silvers and Saturn silvers I'm selling along with some test discs but those will be at set prices with the help of ASSEMbler himself since I'm wasn't sure what this stuff is worth. I'll tell folks before hand what time I'll be posting them when I do so everyone has a shot to look for it and nab what they want.

I'm pretty sure DonnyK did also state he reserved the right to end early but I can also understand why the others were annoyed but look at it these ways...

For those of you who lost to me on Geist. I sold my PS3 + TV + Multifunciton printer/scanner to fund it yet it may never boot so I take a big hit and if it is playable you will get to play it.

With this auction, the likely difference to the PAL version which has already been translated into english is to put it into bad english (U.S. English) and alter the credits accordingly. Added to this a U.S. version has already been dumped and you already have a lot less reasons to be angry. That doesn't really console the collectors amongst you but unlike Pokemon you can never catch them all. Feel free to try though, but be prepared to fail.

Crazy offers should have been posted within the thread as bids though :(

Personally what I would have liked to see is that if the auction ended the OP remained intact, except to state is has been sold with a post from the seller (bump if you will) to explicitly inform people of the circumstances. The only reason I say this is because even though an item is sold it is still nice to see and learn about what was sold so it should persist for historical reasons. Same should go for prices too, don't change price to sold, put sold next to the price.

Anyhow, better luck next time :p

Google cache is here to help you:

"Any PM's sent to end the auction early will not be answered unless it's an obnoxious amount and then I reserve the right to end the auction at any time for any reason."

I guess DonnyK received an obnoxius amount...

Strange how the Geist Force auction had no mention of 'reserve the right to end this early' or am I thinking too much into this?

Geist Force ended at $700 give or take and Deep Fear already had bids upto $175.

I think we all know that Deep Fear has been dumped on previous occasions and I know personally of a few other sources who have this data also. My question is - How obnoxious could an offer have been?!?!

Seems to me this may have been more of an interest check than an actual auction.

I think if the auction had ended and then it had gone to someone privately for a higher price that'd be genuinely shitty behaviour, but in this case it was part of the auction description so anyone truly interested took their chances by not PM'ing a highball offer. Does defeat the purpose of a public auction somewhat...

Tbh I was shocked that the auction had even hit $175. It's out there for DL, and as Kiff says other people have original discs for it too. I got mine for $50 shipped less than 6 months ago. A JP beta, now that would be worth big bucks to me (and many other I assume).

Yeah, seeing it mentioned on the first page of the topic that it's already been dumped, twice at that, made me think this wouldn't get that much. Who knows how many people were discouraged and didn't even know that until it was mentioned. In the end, he did hint he'd take very good offers, and this game is no loss since it's already dumped and all. I'm glad it wasn't something that's undumped that is very wanted, that's all I can say. Hate it when that stuff sells anonymously to some collector who has no intention of ever even sharing the fact they own it.

I know I'll be keeping my money for other sellers than DonnyK now. This was something I actually wanted.

Got it on Lost and Found vol3 so I didn't bother. Not worth >$175 to me, anyway.

It's not worth anything at all to me. It's basically the same as the PAL game apart from it's us coded. Not worth bothering with IMO however a beta would be  Each to their own though. One mans crap is another mans treasure as they say.
