I don't know man, Emo girls are pretty hot.

What's really funny is if I were 16, that's probably how I'd be dressing. Everything except the hair, which just would not look good on me.

I'm going to really date myself by this next paragraph.

I remember back in the early 90s when "Alternative" rock music just started to hit the mainstream (bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Rage against the Machine, Jane's Addiction, Tool, etc.) In my neck of the woods you either were into gangsta rap, or heavy/death metal (Metallica, Slayer, Gwar, and the like.) Everyone made fun of this new stuff for being too whimpy - but within a few months it's what everyone was listening to.

Now here's a funny thing, as you get older, by default you get out of touch with new music and styles (unless you review records for a living or something.) It's natual, happens to us all. You tend to listen to things you liked in your formative years (i.e. teenage years, early 20s.) You also tend to pretty much dress the same too, with limited permutations depending on how much style you choose to pay attention to.

One of the side effects of this is that you become an outside observer to the what's "cool" in the mainstream. It truly is amazing how fast popular culture evovles, yet remains the same. Hair/clothing/music styles change so damn fast it's almost a full time occupation trying to keep track of it all, let alone spending enough time to actually try and incorporate the stylistic elements you find appealing into your own personal identity.

Emo to me seems like some kind of strange offshoot, bastard mutation of Goth and punk rock, but without the hard edge and a large helping of fake mixed in. I don't say this to be mean, it's just an observation. The people who can pull it off (as in, those who just live it, and don't "try") are the ones who don't look rediculous. They're the people who will still be dressing this way 10 years from now.

That's why people my age (over 30) seem so outdated to you youngsters - becasue we're wearing shit from 1998 like it's brand new, becasue to us, it is still brand new (well, most of us anyways.) I have shirts and shit I've worn less than 10 times in the last decade. It's gonna happen to you too, just watch. One day you'll wake up and see some kid wearing some outlandish shit you'd never be caught dead in - congradulations, you just got "old."

Anyway, not really a point to all this... except maybe don't put too much stock into this shit. A fashion statement isn't a social movement. Within a few years the Emo people will go away, until there's only a few hardcore left, the same way every once in a while you still see people wearing tye dyes and bellbottoms, or ripped up jean jacket and mowhawks, or all in black with crow face and accompanying ank, and in the end it really doesn't matter.

Who gives a crap about all this stuff anyway.

I think Hawanja's post pretty much sums it up. Like I said, I didn't go intot he emo "trend"...It's just something I've been with for awhile. I never thought I was "emo" until I was called it. I was just me, a video game playing computer nerd.

As for emo girls being hot - Hell yes.

I'm totally in agreement with the "emo girls are hot" statement, but some of those you posted are pretty nasty looking. I like the subtle emo look, if there is such a thing. Gobs of eyeshadow and green hair just make you look like a goth :\

Also, some emo guys look like girls, so that throws me off a little.

    I like goth girls.

As for the dudes that look like chicks, think of it as a surprise!

    thats a dude

    also a dude.

But it's not so much the emo thing making them dress like girls as much as the, transgender thing.

That isn`t really the kind of suprise i`m into, more like a suprise PS3 for christmas kind of person.

That really does look like a girl though to be fair.

Most emo girls in London are <18 which is too young for me. I always liked goth girls though.

I like goth girls as much as the next guy, but a lot of people that stick to these types of styles go overboard. I wouldn't like being "surprised" by a guy, though. In fact there's a good chance that the unfortunate gentleman would have a black eye and broken nose post-"surprise."

None of this matters, though, because I seem to attract the rich, beautiful, and mentally unstable :\

Jesus I can't wait to move to the mountains...

just talking sterotypes for comic effect, not serious. thats what we think of when we talk about girls in the mountains/countryside in the UK, in real life they are actually constantly drinking, into drugs and fucking.
