Once again you make me re-think things. Ok, maybe calling it awful was over the top, because if it was a stand-alone game with any other title I would probably like it better than knowing its a sequel, and it is nowhere near awful, its very well made for what it is, no outstanding flaws. But back to the zombie part, as you said they are very similar to zombies which just makes me wish they left them be! ;-) ha! I think it boils down to a personal hatred of the Leon character! I hate him almost as much as I hate Raiden from MGS2! Any who, back to the topic at hand, has anyone actually played through Dino Crisis 3? I know not of a single soul who finished it. And anyone that has, does it get better?
I never much rated the RE series for their characters or story, to be honest. None of it has ever made much sense.
I have no idea how anyone could call RE4 awful, since it's by far the best game in the series. The ones on PS1 have NOT aged well, like most of the PS1 library actually.
Just as you have no idea how someone could call it awful, I have no idea how someone could think its the best in the series. ;-)
RE4 is junk, utterly rubbish, if it wasn't in the RE series and had a copletely different title then maybe it'd be alright, but it goes from RE3 being slightly 'meh' to RE4 just being so stupid I didn't even bother with it. DC1 is in my mind the best, especially on the DC with the improved graphics, shame DC2 was only released on the PSX? :S. And DC3... My god, I don't think I've played anything as bad as that in my life.
Two things occur here. The first is that RE4's storyline is about as coherent as any of the previous three, which is to say it's laughable nonsense, but if that's a problem for you I can't imagine how you got through its predecessors. The second is that you "didn't even bother with it" so your judgement of it being good or not is somewhat suspect.
-No bullshiting around with ink ribbons and chests -No stupid fixed cameras -Much better controls -No 90s 3D graphics Pretty obvious.
Back in 1997, RE1 had me literally shaking with fear and horror. I've looked at RE4 and didn't flinch at all, in fact it makes me want to turn it off and do something like paint a scarvy picture to try and get some adrenaline.
So basically you've grown up. I don't think that's RE4's fault. RE1 doesn't have any of us shaking with fear any more RE4 does have some pretty nasty moment later on, incidentally. There's encounters with mostly-invincible bosses that will shit you up. I will agree though that in general RE4 isn't as tense as its predecessors.
I am sorry, but this is a place to discuss opinions, not assume that everyone thinks like you, so what you think isn't obvious to me (or anyone for that matter!) ;-) Funny thing is, everything you mentioned are the changes that derailed the series for me!
Well, you did say you couldn't understand why someone would call it the best in the series, and I told you why ;-)
So Dino Crisis 1 is pretty good? I have it for the DC, but I never opened it. I'm still playing a lot of retro gaming as of late. (SEGA CD, SEGA Saturn,PS1,) =Hugh
About being afraid with videogames, I still remember when I was a kid (about 3 or 4), I couldn't play Doom or Alone in the Dark, I was so scared I didn't want to move, or else an enemy might appear out of nowhere (especially AITD). Of course I've grown up, and games rarely scare me anymore, I recently played Dead Space, and while it has some scary moments, it isnt anything special.
