Do you still go to arcades? (when or if you find them)

I have to plan ahead. As they're so smokey, I only take clothes I don't mind reeking to high hell when I get out. That actually has weighed in when I'm deciding whether or not to buy a PCB at a ridiculous price.

I would probably cough out some cash to open one to cater for the people in your town. Is like a monopoly for you. :)

There none in my city, and the nearest one (like 40 miles to the west) is so lame is not even worth the trip.

I'm having bad luck with arcades lately, the one I just mentioned only has 1 old Daytona with the right steering wheel broken, and 1 SegaRally2 that barely working. They used to have a Ferrari Challenge but some asshole destroyed the seat and 1 screen:-(

They also had a R360 that had been broken for a while. I offered to buy it but they said they were going to repair it. Next thing I know those idiots dumped it into one of those car compactors:DOH:

Arcades are in total decline all over the west, thats not news, but IMO the reason people dont go there anymore is becos the games are lame, old, and the facilities are just not in the same league than most bars and food chains (ie: most arcades are all dark & crappy and that drives people away).

Owners dont want to invest becos according to them the arcade era is over and nothing will bring it back. But I've seen the so called "gaming cafes" with their nice decoration, high-end PCs, bar, VIP rooms, and they're always full. Why cant arcades be like that?.

I for once would love to be able to rent a VIP room with some racing cabinets so me and my friends could play without having some dickwad breaking my balls cuz he and his "hommies" want to play...

If I had the money (or backers) I would build such an arcade, and I'm sure it would be succesful, after all, wheres the competition?;-)

    Not that I'm aware of...

There is one close by that is basically some guy's collection of arcade cabs and pinball games. He built a second house on his property to showcase and store all the cabs and whatnot. He just puts everything on free play and charges hourly. Most of the arcade stuff is retro, which isn't a bad thing.

His collection of pinball machines is amazing. Over 100 of them, everything from the sixtys to the current stuff.

Other then that, I have to make a small drive out to either D&B or Seaside

The Tekken fans keep them alive on the East and West coasts of the US.

I can name 5 or 6 arcades near me easily.

    Tilt
    Dave and Busters
    Tokyo Game Action
    Seakonk Grand Prix
    Salsbury Beach arcades
    Spring Lake Arcade

    all in RI and Mass

Went to the arcade near me (at home, as oppose to at school), pretty much was crap. Someone left their Initial D card though, so I liberated it.

Around where I live there aren't any arcades, all the malls took them out over ten years ago, and any arcade games I do find are from the late 90s. You would think in a major city there would be someplace one could go, but nope. For example, there's a sky-high bowling place at Universal Studios citywalk, but most of the games in the arcade are those mechanical skill-types to win tickets.

There's a few of these in the San Fernando Valley 'round where I live, problem is they're too damn expensive first off. They want like ten bucks an hour to play CS and Half Life - fuck that shit. Think about it, ten bucks an hour? After a few hours you could have bought the game. Five hours is internet connection for a month. Not even close to worth it.

Plus it's not the same experience, these gaming cafes tend to be very solitary, you go in, play, and do not talk to anyone. If I wanted to do that I would play at home for free. They don't have the same atmosphere as an arcade, where you could be kicking ass but any fool could walk up and challenge you and everybody hoots and hallers... that experience is just gone, you can't get it now.

    Such a sad situation.

I do, especially in movie theaters. The problem is there are simply too many shooters on consoles now, not enough fighters. And the fighters that are released tend to go straight to console. I wish they hit arcades first for a certain amount of time then get ported over to home systems.
