I have been curious of this for a while. I noticed in some previous music threads that there are several metal fans on the forum and wondered if they played. I always love to meet fellow musicians.
Well Im not big into metal, but I have been playing guitar non stop for around 13 years and still going.
i play guitar, have done for around 13 years too. I currenlty have an Electro acoustic, A Fender Telecaster, and a BOSS GT8 effects unit. no amp to speak of at present due to space but have previously had both a Marshall Stack & a Fender Blues Deville 4x10. Previous Guitars include a Fender Strat, Epiphone Sheraton, Epiphone SG, Gibson L6S, & a 1965 Fender Mustang (olympic white (faded) and pre-CBS model)
A Fender Telecaster, those are really nice guitars, you can get very nice tones with it.For me I got myself a Fender Jaguar, its japanese made. The pickups are not to great but Im getting them replaced.Heres a pic. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/pikkonson/jags.jpg Also are there any drummers around here, been drums for 9 years now.
I have a Dean Black Gold; I wouldn't call myself a total guitar player or anything but I can at least play riffs. =) I'm going to learn someday though when I find the time. I have troubles with my hands but I don't think it would be a big problem. My dad is an excellent guitar player and was in an awesome thrash band called Lurch Killz. His friends are from Flotsom $ Jetsam and he's met nearly everyone in metal so it's always fun to hear the stories.
mines the other way around, i can play rhythym, strum in any pattern etc, but struggle with Riffs and solos and such.
Been playing for over 15 years and still strong. My main guitars are an Ibanez S470 SOL (Mahogany body, mounted with a full set of DiMarzio evolution pickups) the same as Herman Li from Dragon Force and an Ibanez 7321BK 7 strings, also recently got an Ibanez 4 strings bass. I also still have my first guitar a cheap Korean Strat copy, also got a spanish made classical guitar, a cheap Yamaha folk (my real first guitar) and finally a french hand made 12 strings guitar which is probably over 30 years old... I've been playing for over 10 years on a Marshall Valvestate 8080 not the best amp in the world but solid enough coupled with Boss GT-8. Also got several rack MFX and a TC Harmoniser for Voice and Guitar. In terms of influences it's mostly metal stuff like Metallica, Megadeth, Paradise Lost, Cradle Of Filth, Steve Vai, Dragon Force, Satriani, Malmsteen, Dream Theater, recently got hooked up to Porcupine Tree which is brilliant. I'm a drummer; kind of. I'm not very good since I don't have the means to practice, although whenever I get a decent job I'm thinking about selling my acoustic set to buy electronic. I prefer acoustic over electronic any day, but unfortunately I won't have a place to keep an acoustic set for quite some time. It's probably a moot point anyway; when it comes to drums I'm into heavier things like Death (I love every single drummer that has ever played for that band, *especially* Sean Reinert). I really doubt I'll ever be able to play things like that, but my left hand is getting stronger and hopefully I'll get my double bass up to speed soon with the practice pad I'm getting. I bought a guitar, but it's pretty much just sitting here. Hopefully I'll pick it up when I move into my apartment (more space, and apparently one of my roommates is a guitarist).
Yeah, 24yrs of guitar playing - you are never a 'complete' guitar player. It's like a language, you find new things all the time and the more you practice the more you realise you need to practice more!
Only air guitar Thought I do play drums.. thought as I couldn't bring them with me when I moved out from my parents a few years ago, I can only play them when I visit them.
I play electric guitar, every day. Have been now for almost 2 years. I mainly do Tool covers, as Adam Jones is my idol, but other than that, I come up with my own material. My brother's a drummer, so we come up with new things whenever we get a chance. Anyways, as far as setup, I have an Epiphone Silverburst Custom Les Paul with a Marshall TSL122 JCM2000 amplifier and several effects pedals.
Wow lots of musical experience/talent on this board! I have been playing for almost nine years....mostly melodic death/technical metal. I love the challenge as there is still sooo much more to learn. The past year or so I have been working a lot on sweep picking technique and creating melodies through stringing various sweep arpeggios together (major/minor/diminished)...love the sound - especially harmonizing them. I am in dire need of a new amp. Right now I play through a Randall Warhead 212 Combo w/ a broken gain channel...so I use a Digitech Weapon or Zoom G2.1u line in and a Furman PQ3 parametric EQ in the effects loop. The Zoom has a USB out so I can plug straight into my Macbook and record w/ Cubase. It only supports direct line in/no mics so the quality is not good, but at least I can throw down ideas/harmonize riffs, etc. As far as guitars...Strat in pieces (the project), Jackson RRV neck through w/ Duncans, Crown City acoustic, old school hot pink BC Rich Acoustic w/ six inline tuner headstock - no serial number, *real* ESP M-1 Deluxe w/ Bill Lawrence 500XL in bridge - I had In Flames sign this one so it does not get played. And my main rig and hands down the most playable guitar I have ever layed hands on - Caparison Dellinger II: This guitar is touched by the hand of God (and I got it for ~$1200 off list)...it is the only one of my guitars that gets played anymore.
I tried the whole guitar thing, pinky never worked as it should though. Ill stick to the brass instruments that I play (A good handful at that, just got back from my old high schools concert where I played for 2 songs )
About time, just got my replacement Seymour Duncan pickups for my Jaguar, now I can use my Jag at a show I have on the 28th,haha.
Well if your a drummer you can find a band easy, almost every band is looking for a new drummer. But for me I play on a single bass, but I do alot of triple kicks, kind of like how Dave Grohl plays. But just join a band and you will keep on getting better and more better in time. And also learning guitar well make you a better drummer by far.
I've done single bass over the past few months, just because I'm so out of time with the double it just screws me up. Hence the practice pad As for playing with bands, I would've, but not many people around here have good taste in music. 90% of the bands I hear/happen to see are "power pop" bands, meaning they're emo but just a little more upbeat.
