hey guys, i managed to get my hands on 2 npdp odem cards. both v1's, earlier run with the dual orca chips. One marked beta and one not, both are identical at the component level. I've heard tell of a v2 model, but info is scarce. Are there any disadvantages to the v1 ? I am currently awaiting my scsi cable to try these out.
Apparently a standard SCSI cable will not work with an ODEM card: https://assemblergames.com/threads/npdp-odem-orca-card.59497/#post-932930
I've seen that thread, but after searching have found 2 other threads that state the cable is just a standard hd68 male to male https://assemblergames.com/threads/wtb-npdp-cartridges-gdev-software-and-odem.15351/ https://assemblergames.com/threads/npdp-odem-error-message.19043/page-2
My one had a large yellow warning label on it saying not to connect a SCSI cable to the ODEM port. I assume it was there for a reason.
I just checked my gdev and it says something along the lines of "connect only an odem interface card with the supplied cable to your GDEV, do not connect a DDH interface to your GDEV or damage will occur" I've come across another posting on here earlier and the person explained their set up and in it used a generic scsi cable. There are 3 threads above confirming that a generic SCSI cable will work. Can someone confirm that a standard scsi h68 MM cable will suffice for odem-gdev, and what the downsides of the v1 odem are ?
Bump, this thread kind of just went off track and turned into people heckling me about the cable. What is the downside to the v1 odems ?
There is no downside, I run both types, no bugs, they purely wanted to finalize the pcb on ver2, i.e. it's neater.
